Chapter 18
LUC
Kylie’s new apartment was within walking distance of my place, and it was reassuring to see that it was not only in a safe neighborhood but one of the better Boston locations.
I knew her salary was likely entry-level for a public servant, and I suspected her new roommate was heavily subsidizing the rent.
When I pulled up in front of the classic brownstone entrance, her hand immediately reached for the door handle.
“Hey,” I said.
“Yeah?”
“Good luck with the move. I wish I could help today.”
Kylie looked and turned to meet my eyes. “If you saw how few belongings I have, you’d recognize that this is not going to be a tough move. Lily and I will be drinking and celebrating by late afternoon.”
“Can I text you when the game is over?”
“Of course.”
She smiled at me, and I wanted to do anything to prolong the morning with her.
“Can I bring you a housewarming gift?”
“What are you asking for, Luc? A booty call?”
“I guess I’m just not ready for this date to end, and I would like to see you later tonight if that’s okay?”
Kylie leaned in, cupped my cheek, and softly kissed my lips. “I would like to see you too. Let me know when you’re on the way, okay?”
I nodded and watched her get out of my car and head up the steps.
