33. Chapter Thirty-Three
Chapter thirty-three
N ick woke up in heaven, wrapped around Aria, her head on his arm, her sweet ass pushed into his hard dick as he spooned her from behind. “I could get used to this,” he whispered, nuzzling his nose into her hair. He breathed in her scent. Beer, booze, and peaches. He wasn’t trying to wake her. Not at this hour. He simply couldn’t help himself.
She needed her rest. She’d gotten home around two a.m. and snuggled into bed beside him.
Their first night officially living together.
He had a list of things they needed to buy for the house, starting with a dresser for her. He’d put away some of her clothes in the massive walk-in closet. Of course he gave her more than half of it. His suits and casual clothes barely took up 40 percent.
But just seeing her stuff with his made him so damn happy.
He gently untangled himself from Aria and eased out of bed. He couldn’t resist kissing her forehead before he headed to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee and check his work emails. He might be on leave, but that didn’t mean his cases stopped. He had agents who reported to him and needed his guidance or approval to move ahead, depending on the case or situation.
The coffee was ready and he poured himself a cup. As he took his first sip, he noticed something stuck to the sliding back door that led out to the backyard. He set his coffee aside and walked up to the door and read the note staring back at him.
I bet I’d make a lot of money off your pretty girlfriend. She rides your cock like a rodeo queen. Perhaps that’s the best revenge. You not knowing where she is or how many men are fucking her. One way or another, you’ll pay.
The ugly words sank into the pit of his stomach, making him feel sick, even as his rage grew to monumental proportions. Every muscle in his body tensed, ready to kill the bastard.
That asshole came to his house and threatened his girlfriend. The woman who would be his wife, the mother of their kids. No fucking way.
Javier was not going to take her from him. Nothing and no one as ugly as Javier Lopez and his dirty business would ever touch her.
They already have.
He’s watching me. He was watching us.
Fuck!
He couldn’t let Aria see that note. He couldn’t tell her what Javier had seen. But he did need to warn her. He needed to tell Mason and the team of agents keeping an eye on all of them.
He hung his head and took a moment to compose himself. That’s when he spotted the phone on the ground. His head shot up and he scanned the area. In the early morning dawn, shadows still covered the backyard. He waited, watching if anything moved.
When he was certain enough that he was alone, he opened the door and snatched up the phone, then he closed and locked it again.
The burner phone had a full charge and one number programmed into it. He hit dial and waited as the phone rang, once, then twice.
“You’re up early. I thought you’d be fucking that sweet piece of ass all night now that you finally have her in your bed. You two look so happy in your bliss. Moving in together suits you.” His malicious voice and taunting words made Nick see red.
“Fuck you. You touch her and you’re dead.” Nick wanted to kill him. Slowly.
“You know what you took from me. I thought I could trust you, then you betrayed me. The whole time you were just trying to take me down. You failed. Now I will take my revenge. And once I’ve crushed your heart, I will take your brother, then kill you.”
“Not if I kill you first.” Nick hung up and let Javier choke on that.
The phone rang immediately. He didn’t answer. Javier was the kind of guy who let his rage get the better of him.
Nick was more controlled. More calculating.
Javier was in town. Or at least close by. He couldn’t hide in a small town like this for long. Nick would find him. He’d stop him. Before that monster got close to Aria again.
