Chapter 16
"He's Henry's bodyguard," she whispered. "Why would Henry send someone to my house right now?"
Diana's expression turned serious. "He might be suspicious of you."
"What should I do?" Victoria's panic escalated.
She never anticipated that Henry would be so perceptive. They had met here, and now he was starting to doubt her identity. Was her disguise that inadequate?
Diana said firmly, "Don't panic. He's suspicious but hasn't confirmed anything yet; otherwise, you would already be outed."
Victoria quickly messaged Henry: [If this isn't about the divorce, tell your man to leave. I don't want to see you.]
Her anger was palpable even in text form. She should be upset that he hadn't responded to her earlier message.
After sending it, Victoria tucked her phone away and felt a bit of relief. Her attitude was justified.
Meanwhile, Henry glanced at the message on his phone, his brow furrowing. He looked toward Victoria, his interest piquing. His suspicion about her identity deepened.
If he wasn't mistaken, he had just seen her take out her phone, and moments later, his phone buzzed with her message.
"What a lame trick," he thought with a sneer.
Victoria caught sight of him walking toward her, and the calm she had just regained was shattered.
What was going on?
Why was he coming closer?
Fearing she might give something away, she glanced at Diana for help.
Diana frowned and stepped in front of Henry. "Mr. Harrison, are you here to discuss a partnership with Ms. Aroma? I'm sorry, but our collaboration slots are all filled. Please come back next month."
She handed him her business card. "You can reach out to me then."
"Get out of the way," Henry replied coldly, shooting an icy glare at Diana.
Diana's expression hardened. "Mr. Harrison, as I mentioned, Ms. Aroma is currently busy..."
Henry had no intention of dealing with Diana. He fixed his gaze on Victoria's back and spoke icily, "Victoria, nice act."
Victoria's panic peaked.
This was dangerous.
He was confronting her without evidence, which meant he was almost certain. If he chose to, he could unmask her and confirm his suspicions.
What should she do now?
Just as the tension reached its climax, Edward's housekeeper approached with a smile. "Ms. Aroma, Sir Caldwell would like to speak with you. Please follow me."
Victoria nodded slightly and began to follow the housekeeper upstairs.
But in the next instant, Henry seized her wrist. "Victoria, I was talking to you. Didn't you hear me?"
Victoria turned her head, ready to slap him. Henry swiftly evaded and loosened his grip.
"Sir, aren't you crossing the line? I clearly rejected you in the elevator, yet you keep bothering me. Don't you get what I'm saying? Maybe you should read more and work on your comprehension!" Victoria snapped.
Even with her mask on, her anger was unmistakable. "And who is this Victoria you keep talking about? Should I know her? Or have you mistaken me for her? I don't know her at all. You've got the wrong person. Leave me alone! Stop being so shameless."
With that, she followed the housekeeper upstairs.
Diana stood there, stunned. Was she out of her mind?
Not only did Diana think so, but everyone around them was equally shocked by Victoria's outburst.
Didn't Ms. Aroma know who Henry was?
He was the heir of Lanceser's most prominent family and the youngest head of the Harrison Group.
Everyone figured that after publicly scolding him, her life would take a turn for the worse. The reputation she had built would likely be shattered tonight.
Those who had previously considered working with Victoria began to hesitate.
Henry's face darkened. His eyes glinted with cold fury as he watched her retreating figure, tugging at his collar. He gritted his teeth, fuming.
Diana noticed his growing gloom and hurried to explain, "Mr. Harrison, this is all a misunderstanding..."
Henry quickly returned calm and shot her a cold look. "I made a mistake. Please apologize to Ms. Aroma on my behalf."
Diana was confused.
Before she could breathe a sigh of relief, Henry continued, his voice flat, "However, I'm a petty person. Being scolded in public humiliated me. Anyone who crosses me won't have an easy time."
With that, he walked away. Diana stood there, at a loss.
Edward smiled as Victoria entered. "Ms. Aroma, you don't seem to like Henry, do you?"
Victoria thought he might have something important to say, but she was caught off guard by his question. "How did you know that, Sir Caldwell?"
Edward chuckled. "Because I don't like that guy either. But he's good friends with Jayce, and over the years, he's been the only one who could get close to Jayce. I know you're avoiding him, so I arranged a car for you at the back entrance. You can leave now."
Victoria said gratefully, "Sir Caldwell, thank you."
Edward said, "You're welcome. I'll be visiting you often for Jayce's treatment."
Victoria smiled. "I'll definitely do my best."
Once she got into the car at the back door, she exhaled in relief and messaged Diana: [I was pretty cool just now, right?]
Diana replied: [You're in serious trouble. He hates you now.]
