Chapter 46
Victoria blinked, her eyes wide with disbelief. "I scratched myself? Why would I do that?"
Henry's eyes were cold. His gaze remained fixed on her. "Apologize to Sarah. If you don't, there will be consequences."
His tone was icy and unwavering, leaving no room for argument.
The words sent a chill down Victoria's spine, quelling any thought of resistance.
Victoria pressed her lips together, looking at him with at complex gaze.
Her eyes shifted to Sarah's face, then she scoffed.
"I didn't push her. I will not apologize. "
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away.
Her slender back was straight, not bowing to his threats in the slightest.
Sarah's eyes gleamed with triumph, thinking. "This woman is digging her own grave. Henry will definitely start hating her now!"
She tugged at Henry's sleeve and said, "Henry, don't be mad at her. I'm really fine."
Henry was still staring at Victoria's retreating figure. His expression grew even darker. After a pause, he turned back to Sarah and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Sarah blinked. "I heard Gideon returned, so I came to see him. I didn't expect something like this to happen. Henry, are you mad at me?"
Henry's expression remained cold. "No. Your leg still needs time to heal. Try not to move too much."
"Okay, I understand."
Sarah nodded, but inside, she was filled with anxiety, uncertain of what was going through his mind.
After the examination, she was relieved to find that her calf was fine. After all, if something had been wrong, it would have been the end for her!
Henry escorted her back to her ward, and as the nurse came in to change her bandages, Henry gave a strict order. "Tell her not to move too much. If she goes anywhere, I want to be notified."
"Yes, Mr. Harrison."
The nurse, aware of his status, responded respectfully.
Sarah's breath caught. She realized he was keeping an eye on me!
She thought, "Did he suspect I've done that on purpose?"
Sarah was frantic, though she couldn't let it show. She thought, "What now? What should I do?"
She had never been able to understand his thoughts before, and now, she understood even less.
She asked herself, "Isn't he supposed to dislike Victoria?"
Before returning to the country, she'd had someone investigate their marriage.
She'd been told that Victoria was very proactive and deeply in love with Henry, yet Henry remained cold toward her. Even at events requiring their attendance as a couple, he only put on a show for appearances.
She also learned that Jude didn't like Victoria as a mother.
Besides, on the day she returned to the country for her performance, Victoria had a car accident, but neither Henry nor Jude went to check on Victoria. They went to watch her performance instead!
Sarah had thought that, in their eyes, she was the most important one!
But now, something seemed to have shifted.
She hated this change. She felt she had to force them to divorce quickly!
If Henry wouldn't agree, she'd have to involve the Harrison family.
Victoria was in a foul mood.
She went to the pharmacy to buy iodine and cotton swabs to disinfect the scratches on her hand. She was afraid Sarah's nails carried any germs. She didn't want to take any chances.
Afterward, she sat in the car, deep in thought.
Her once-balanced relationship with Henry had been disrupted.
Because of this incident, Henry was angry, and discussing the divorce would certainly be more difficult now.
Just then, her phone rang. She picked it up to see that it was Jayce calling. "Hello? Mr. Caldwell."
Jayce's voice was cold and dry. "Meet me tonight at the Night Club."
Victoria raised an eyebrow. "What's this about?"
Jayce replied, "You'll find out when you get here."
With that, he hung up abruptly.
Victoria was confused.
She thought, "What is going on? Couldn't he just explain over the phone?"
She sighed in frustration and decided to head home.
That evening, Victoria arrived at the Night Club and saw Jayce standing by the entrance, his eyes lowered. His delicate features drew the attention of many. People, both men and women, couldn't help but look at him with interest.
But Jayce didn't notice their looks. Behind him stood a woman in a black suit, her expression stern. Anyone who approached Jayce would be swiftly ushered away by her.
Victoria walked up quickly. "Mr. Caldwell, what's going on?"
Jayce finally looked up as if snapping out of a trance. "Where's your mask?"
Victoria replied, "It's in the car. Are you bringing me to meet a client?"
She felt that if that was the case, then Jayce was quite the gentleman.
"Yes." Jayce answered with little expression.
He thought that Henry could be counted as a client.
After all, if her apology earned Henry's forgiveness, then Henry would be her biggest client.
