Chapter 65
The next day, Victoria heard an urgent knock on the door and walked over to open it while yawning.
In the doorway, two figures, one big and one small, stood there.
Evie was holding the hand of a little girl, who looked about three or four years old, with two buns on her head. The girl's face was pretty, delicate and cute, and she was looking at Victoria curiously with her big eyes.
Evie said, "This is my daughter."
Hearing this, Victoria widened her eyes suddenly and almost swore. But considering that there was a kid here, she held herself back in time.
She said, "Come in and tell me in detail. What's going on?"
Sitting on the sofa, Evie rubbed Emma Clarke's hand and said. "Emma, this is Ms. Victoria"
Emma said softly, "Hello, Ms. Victoria."
Her face was soft like a cloud, and her eyes were bright and clear. Her soft voice almost melted Victoria's heart immediately.
"Hello, Emma. Here you are. It is for you. Does it look good?" Victoria took out a diamond hairpin from the dressing table and handed it to Emma.
Emma blinked her big eyes and said, "Thank you, Ms. Victoria"
"You're so good and so cute." Victoria's eyes were full of affection.
Evie looked at this scene and sighed, "It is a corny story."
"Go ahead. I love listening to the corny story the most." Victoria immediately looked at her, her eyes bright.
Evie remained silent for a moment before briefly explaining how her daughter came to be.
Four years ago, Evie had been working as a special effects makeup artist on a foreign film crew. An big sponsor came to visit, and everyone got drunk that night. The sponsor then mistakenly entered Evie's room, and some unspeakable things happened.
Evie was the first one to wake up the next day. She was so scared that she ran away. She was afraid of retaliation from the sponsor and being targeted by him, so she resigned immediately.
Two months later, she found out she was pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. However, the doctor said that she had special conditions. It would be difficult for her to get pregnant once again if she had an abortion this time, so she kept the baby.
Evie caressed Emma's hair with tenderness in her eyes. "Now that I think about it, the decision I made before was right. Having a daughter has made my life much happier."
Victoria opened her mouth wide, having no idea that Evie had experienced so many things abroad.
"Why didn't you tell me and Diana? You must be scared to give birth to a child alone abroad, right?" Victoria was heartbroken.
Evie was moved. She smiled and shook her head, "I was really ashamed and scared at the time.
When I was intent to contact you, Diana told me what you had went through tough time with your family and Harrison family, so we decided not to worry you.
And then, I gave birth to Emma, taking care of her and working abroad.
I just couldn't find a chance to tell you".
Victoria sighed, "It's ok now. I am glad you and Emma are all good."
Then, she asked in confusion, "By the way, why did you come to see me so early?"
Evie answered, "I have to go abroad for work for a week. I hope you can take care of Emma for me."
Victoria was startled. "Me?"
"Yes." Evie nodded and said with a smile, "You have experience in taking care of children. If I let Diana take care of Emma, she will go crazy. Have you forgotten? She is a DINK."
Victoria laughed, looking at Emma's cute face and saying, "Emma, will you be scared to stay with me for the next week?"
"No." Emma shook her head. Even though it was the first time she saw Victoria, she was not afraid at all.
Victoria felt a little distressed, thinking, "Perhaps it's because she grows up in a single–parent family that makes her more mature than other children of the same age."
Then, she thought of Jude, and the only thing in her mind was his cold face. The tenderness and love Victoria had given Jude gone completely.
But now, Victoria's eyes were unconsciously filled with tenderness when she looked at Emma.
"Okay. Then, how about you pick a room? Or live with me?" Victoria held Emma's hand.
Emma said, "I want to live alone."
Evie looked at this scene and felt relieved, saying, "You can bring her with you to work. She has gotten used to it over the years. She won't cry or make a fuss or cause you any trouble."
Victoria nodded. "Don't worry. I will take good care of little Emma."
Evie glanced at her watch and said, "My flight is in three hours. I'm leaving first."
She squatted down and kissed Emma's face. "Wait for me to come back. You have to listen to Ms. Victoria. Understand?"
Emma nodded obediently. "I will. Bye, mom."
After Evie left, Victoria took Emma to the mall to buy daily necessities. The room had been selected, but some necessities needed to be prepared.
At first, Emma was very reserved and shook her head no matter what Victoria asked her. But Victoria directly bought two dolls for her to hold.
"Emma, don't you want to give your dolls a warm and beautiful home? What color of bed sheets do you want?" Victoria coaxed Emma little by little.
Emma gradually relaxed and smiled, making her even more adorable, "I want pink."
Victoria smiled, held Emma's soft hand, and bought a lot of things.
At noon, they went to a parent–child–themed restaurant and ordered the food that Emma liked.
"Ms. Victoria, thank you," smiled Emma softly and looked at Victoria cutely.
Victoria was a little dazed. Her efforts and enthusiasm were responded to. For some reason, she felt her eyes a little sore.
"Ms. Victoria, why are you crying? Are you feeling unwell?" asked Emma.
Seeing Victoria cry, Emma immediately took out a tissue to wipe her tears. But unfortunately, she was too small and couldn't reach it.
Victoria immediately bent down to cooperate with her with a happy smile. "No, I just felt my eyes a little uncomfortable. It will be fine in a while."
Emma's cute face was full of worry. "Mom said that if you feel unwell, you should see a doctor. Ms. Victoria, don't be afraid of the doctor. I will accompany you."
"Okay." Victoria was really moved.
At that moment, outside the restaurant, Jude accidently was watching this scene next to the huge doll. His delicate face became colder and colder, and his hands were clenched into fists.
