Chapter 45
We move as one. As soon as we round the wall we are met with at least five men at the end of the hallway guarding a lone door. Gunshots fire immediately. I vaguely hear Blithe yell for me to go back or get down. I can’t be sure because I shut everything off the moment I learned Marcus’s location. He will not escape me.
I run at odd angles, high and low, side to side, attempting to save myself another life altering injury as I race for the fuckers who think this man deserves safety.
It doesn’t take me long to get to them. I stab my knife into a man’s belly and drag it up with all the strength I can muster, at the same time my other hand works a blade into another’s neck. Blood rains down on me from both sides when I pull back, and I fucking relish in it. Fuck these guys.
I duck just in time to dodge getting clocked in the face with the blunt end of a gun. Bending further at the knees, my foot kicks out and I spin knocking him on his ass. Straddling him I plunge my blades into any area available with both hands, there’s no skill to it, the asshole dies either way.
Suddenly I’m yanked off from behind. Someone has a hold of my throat, while another set of hands hold my arms behind my back, and I laugh.
I heard them say my name when I approached. They had to have known this was the worst possible move on their end.
Craning my neck, I lock eyes with someone I recognize. Sean, a gold acolytes that stood at Marcus’s side through everything. There’s no thought to it when my jaw opens wide, and my teeth latch onto his cheek. He screams in my ear while I thrash in their unforgiving holds.
A sharp pain stabs me in the chest, a sign that I’m more than physically exerting myself tonight, but I don’t stop. Opening my jaw for a split second, I re-latch to gain a better hold and use the muscles straining in my neck to face forward once more, taking the flesh of his cheek and a bit of his lip with me.
The hold Sean had on me breaks and I use the wiggle room to free my left arm that was held behind my back in a painful position. The grasp I had on my blades never faltered. Using my free hand, I twist just in time to avoid a fist to the back of the head and drive the knife directly into the eye of the one holding my right hand hostage.
He falls back with a scream when I yank it out. The sight a beautiful masterpiece of cleansed evil.
Diverting my attention back to Sean, I click my tongue. “Now now, you knew how fucking stupid that was.”
My head tips, my tongue leaving my mouth to lick a circle around my lips. Sean cringes as I taste his blood, making me smile. It’s the last thing they see before I slit both their throats.
I admire them a moment, wanting nothing more than to carve my signature into their filthy flesh for the rats to chew on, but there’s no time.
Looking up I’m met with the eyes of many. It seems the prisoners here all had the same idea. Both the Carters and the Hues men are in the fray as well. At the front of the group is Blithe with a raised brow. He’ll probably bitch at me later for running into danger.
I’m not even going to look at Rex, he’s probably itching to shove meds down my throat.
It’s the gaze I won’t meet that has me spinning in place to face the door that will lead me straight to Marcus. I can feel Creeks eyes like a physical caress, but I won’t give in. He deserves nothing from me. Unfortunately, I can only slay one monster at a time.
One step… Two. Resting my hand around the door handle I inhale a deep breath and close my tired eyes. It’s catching up to me, all of the fighting, killing… screaming. My vision grows dark, and I blink it away with the shake of my head.
Just a little longer. Please hold on a little longer. For Cami.
I’d do anything for Cami…
