Chapter Thirteen
Lucas came back out and stood by, impatiently waiting, as Amy deliberately took a few more bites of food, chewing as slowly as she possibly could. He glanced at his watch pointedly, trying to get her to pick up the pace.
“Now, Lucas, quit being so impatient. It’s never polite to rush a lady,”
his father scolded.
“We have a lot to do today, Dad. I just want to get going because I have plans with Vienna tonight,”
he added, lying about having a date.
He noticed Amy tense in her seat. Good,
She wasn’t as unaffected as she wanted him to believe. He was surprised with how good the thought made him feel. He didn’t take rejection well, even if he didn’t want the woman. However, that wasn’t the case with her at all. He still wanted her, even more than before.
She stood up and grabbed her purse off the back of the chair.
“I wouldn’t want to make your date wait on you,”
she said in a perfectly calm voice.
“Thank you so much for breakfast, Joseph. It was delicious. Your company was the perfect way to start my day,”
she said and then walked through the door, leaving Lucas to catch up to her. To Lucas, it felt as if he’d been chasing after her way too much since their first meeting.
He smiled to himself as he watched the sway of her hips and the snug jeans that were molded to her luscious backside. He had to admit he didn’t mind the view from behind. Chasing her wasn’t bad, not bad at all.
“Have a good time, kids.”
Lucas heard his father call out to him, but he didn’t bother responding. He was too busy keeping an eye on his incredibly sexy and frustrating assistant.
“Joseph Anderson, what are you up to?”
“Good morning, Beautiful. I was just having breakfast with a lovely young lady and your grumpy son.”
Joseph looked up as Katherine walked through the door. Even with a scowl on her face, she was absolutely exquisite.
“We both know that’s bull. You’re matchmaking, and from the looks of things between those two, it’s going very well,”
she said in a disapproving tone.
“When that boy figures out what you’re up to, he’s going to stop speaking to you. Just know that I’ve warned you.”
“By the time he figures it out, he’ll be very much in love with his wife and thanking me,”
Joseph said with the same cocky attitude Lucas had inherited. Joseph certainly hoped that was the case. Because, otherwise, his wife would be right, and his son would be none too happy with him. It was a risk he was willing to take.
“Let’s go for a drive,”
he said, rising from the table and pulling Katherine into his arms for a good morning kiss.
He meant for it to be short, but by the time he pulled away, he was a bit out of breath. He smiled at the sight of Katherine’s cheeks flushed and her eyes a bit glazed over.
He decided today was going to be a great day. It had started off wonderfully with Lucas and Amy on their way to a passionate relationship. It would end even better, with Katherine by his side.
“Joseph Anderson, you’re just trying to get on my good side by distracting me,”
she said a bit breathlessly.
“Is it working?”
Katherine’s face softened as she looked into his eyes. She never could stay mad at him for long, which was a very good thing, considering he did a lot of foolish things.
“I really shouldn’t let you get away with your scheming, but I suddenly just don’t care. Let’s go for that drive,”
she said, her face softening even more as her hand cradled his cheek.
“Nothing would make me happier,”
Joseph told her before kissing her again. Was it so wrong for him to want his sons to have a love of their own, like what he had with his Katherine? He didn’t see anything at all wrong.
Yes, there was definitely nothing wrong with him wanting his boys to have the same thing he had. They would come to appreciate his meddling when they had a good woman by their side.
