Chapter 31
Teddy
“I heard he’s being charged with assault and murder. I can only hope that he goes away for life.” I can’t help my smile. She’s allowing herself to hope again. She’s going to be okay.
I push off the wall outside her room, and go to find Harley. Writing those letters made me realize that I’ve never officially apologized to my brother for doubting him.
When I find him, I ask him for a minute to talk, and we head to the office.
“I don’t know how I’ve never done it, but I never apologized to you for what I put you through all those years ago. I’m so sorry. I know our relationship won’t be fixed right away, but I would love to work on it again. I need my big brother.”
“You’re forgiven. Have been for a while. But that doesn’t mean that I forgot. I’m not saying that to be mean, but I went to prison for a crime I didn’t commit, and my family abandoned me. That’s a hard thing to forget. It may take a while for our relationship to get to where it was before, but this is a good start.”
“Thank you.” I hug him. It’s the most awkward hug ever, but it is much needed. He walks away, and I sit down at the desk, and start writing my next letter to Ariel.
Later that night, I leave a letter at Ariel’s door as well as another present.
Dear Ariel,
I once told you that nothing short of stealing a literal star out of the sky for you was bare minimum. I lied. Stealing a star out of the sky for you is the bare minimum. There is now a star in the sky just for you. It’s named Daisy. Now you can look up at the sky, and feel your baby girl’s presence. You can talk to her if you want. Your baby girl will always be looking down on you, and you can look up to her.
I Love You
