Chapter Seven

I don’t know why I let Jaylen talk me into going out tonight. I don’t know the last time I went out and just had fun. I guess it’s a start to my new life that she and Demetric insist that I have. We were now in a club, having a good time. I didn’t think I would ever feel so carefree again as I did in that moment. DaBaby’s ‘Shake Sumn’ was blaring through the club’s speakers and I let the small amount of alcohol that I had in my system take over. Finding the beat, I let my hips catch up with the beat. I heard Jaylen hyping me up, and they gave me that extra confidence. During my dance, I felt a body come up behind me, causing me to jump and stop in my tracks.

“Don’t stop now, shorty. I know you felt my dick,” the stranger said in my ear while he had a tight grip on my arm.

“Let me go,” I demanded, trying to break free of him, but his hold became tighter.

“Nigga, get yo’ hands off my friend!” Jaylen fussed as she pushed his ass. That only seemed to make him madder.

“Both y’all bitches can…” his words were cut off abruptly, and I saw Jaylen smirk. I turned around and saw Demetric standing behind the dude with his gun to his head. He had another dude beside him with his gun out as well.

“Nigga, get ya fuckin’ hands off of her,” he growled. Relieved that the stranger turned me loose. I hurried and stood beside Jaylen. The dude looked scared for his life, as he should be for putting his damn hands on me.

“My bad. I ain’t know she had a nigga,” he pleaded.

“Shit don’t matter. The fuck that gotta do wit’ you handling her like that? Fuck on, nigga, ’fore they be scraping ya fuckin’ brains off the floor.” We all watched the dude disappear in the crowd. Once he was out of our eyesight, Demetric approached me.

“You good?” he asked while his deep brown orbs glanced over my body like he was making sure that I was physically okay.

“I’m fine,” I nodded.

“Aight. Y’all don’t need to be out here on the floor like that, and Jay knows better.” He cut his eyes over to her, prompting her to roll hers. “Y’all can come up to our section,” he offered. I looked over at Jaylen and all she did was loop her arm into mine and escorted me off of the dance floor and up a set of stairs. It wasn’t crowded up here at all. The only other people up here besides us were two guys.

“Aye, this the lil’ homie, Daizha. Daizha, this Dre, and that nigga is BJ.” Demetric introduced me to his friends while I sat down by Jaylen, visibly nervous as hell.

“Hey,” I simpered.

“When the bottle girl comes back, y’all get whatever y’all want. Jay, don’t make me fuck you up either, bruh. I don’t want to hear Zeus’ mouth about me letting you get drunk off yo’ ass on my watch.” He glared at Jaylen, and all she did was roll her eyes and waved him off.

“Are you okay?” she asked as soon as her brother’s attention went back to his friends.

“I’m okay. Thank you for having my back down there.”

“Girl, stop thanking me. We told you that we got you now. Fuck any and everything else. Now, come on so we can continue to turn up and celebrate your new beginnings.” Jaylen dragged my hand to an area by the small wall that separated us from everybody else and she started dancing on me. I couldn’t do shit but laugh because this girl was a clown. We danced a few songs before the bottle girl brought us a bottle of tequila. I wasn’t twenty-one yet, but Jaylen was. Usually when you go to clubs, they give you a wristband if you are underage. They didn’t even ask for any ID when Demetric ordered it, even though he was old enough. A few shots later, and I was out of my body and loving every minute of it. It was rare that I got to let my guard down and have a good time. I haven’t been out in almost a year, and I forgot how much fun I had. I was having the time of my life when I heard Jaylen cheer me on as I danced to JT’s ‘No Bars’. I was rapping along with the lyrics and having the time of my life. By the time the song was over and two more played, I was feeling the effects of the liquor.

“I gotta pee,” I leaned over and told Jaylen. She got up and followed me. Before we got out of the section good, Demetric was questioning us.

“Where y’all going?” he asked.

“To the bathroom,” Jaylen answered before I could. He gave me a look and nodded his head like he was giving us his approval.

I almost ran to the bathroom. The liquor seemed to flow straight through me, and if I didn’t empty my bladder soon, I’d pee on myself.

“Girl, you out here having the time of your life,” Jaylen voiced as we washed our hands.

“It feels good, too. Thank you for pushing me to come out,” I countered.

“You don’t have to thank me. I don’t have any friends because these hoes be hating. I like hanging out with somebody my age and of the same sex. I was ’bout sick of hanging out with Meechie and his friends.” After drying our hands, we headed to leave out of the bathroom and ran right into Erica as she waltzed in with another girl following her.

“I thought I saw you. You can’t come to work, but you’re out having the time of your life? What you think Gabe would say?” she smirked, crossing her arms across her chest.

“I really don’t care what he thinks, and you should stay out of my business,” I snapped.

“Yeah, whatever,” was all she said when me and Jaylen exited the bathroom.

“You know she fuckin’ that nigga, right?”

“I had an idea, but I don’t care. Let her deal with his bullshit.” I was serious when I said it. I finally got away from Gabe’s narcissistic ass and I’m not looking back. I couldn’t care less what he had going on.

When we got back in our area, there was another girl up there. She was sitting and staring at the side of Demetric’s face while he talked to his boys. She looked like a creep staring at him like that, but that wasn’t my business. Continuing to follow behind Jaylen, we passed the small group, and Demetric called my name, halting my steps.

“Dai, you still straight?” he asked.

“I’m fine. Thank you.” I kept it short because whoever this girl was, was staring a hole in me.

“Who are you?” she asked with her nose turned up.

“None of your old ass business,” Jaylen snarled.

“I wasn’t talking to you, lil’ girl,” the girl snapped back.

“Aye, watch that shit, and Jay chill,” Demetric ordered.

“Get yo’ auntie, Meech. I ain’t playing wit’ her geriatric ass tonight.” I tried to cover my face so she wouldn’t see me laughing, but I wasn’t quick enough.

“Is there something funny? You full of giggles and shit,” she said. Now, most people thought I was timid, but that wasn’t the truth at all. I just tried to avoid confrontation. Mostly with men, but a female could get it. Plenty girls tried it at the youth center and fucked around and found out.

“Girl, ain’t nobody thinkin’ ’bout yo’ ass. I don’t even know you. Sitting over there looking like a chaperone. Ol’ sit down and be quiet head ass.” My statement caused everyone to laugh except for whoever this chick was.

“Demetric, are you going to let her talk to me like that?” she asked.

“Man, P. You started with that girl. Leave people alone,” he brushed her off.

“Girl, fuck Paris. I don’t know why she’s up here, anyway. Old ass need to leave my brother alone,” Jaylen fussed.

“Oh, that’s Paris?” I quizzed.

“Yep, that’s her old ass. She’s threatened by you and has no reason to. Old ass need to find a man her age, anyway. I should tell my mama so she can beat her ass,” she continued to fuss while I sipped on my drink.

We continued to party and ignore Paris’ sour face ass in the process. It was about an hour before the club closed and Jaylen and I were leaving. I had so much fun that I wasn’t even thinking about Gabe’s ass. That was until Jaylen and I were walking out the door and he grabbed my arm.

“You couldn’t wait to go out and be a hoe, huh?” he asked, gripping my arm tightly in the process. I was initially stuck because I was shocked that he was still bothering me.

“Get your hands off of me!” I snarled, shocking him, and gaining Jaylen’s attention.

“Oh hell, no!” Jaylen fussed. “Take your hands off of her before you get yo’ ass beat out here!”

He chuckled and asked, “by who?”

“By me nigga.” We all looked back and saw Demetric coming toward us with everybody in tow.

“You really fuckin’ this nigga, Daiz?” He almost looked hurt, but that didn’t last long because the anger quickly resurfaced.

“What she’s doing ain’t got shit to do wit’ you. Now take ya fuckin’ hands off of her before shit gets ugly out here.” I was still struggling against his grip until Demetric pointed his gun, and he finally loosened his grip.

“This shit ain’t over, Daizha. I told you, you won’t be happy wit’ nobody but me,” he sniped.

“I beg to differ.” I rolled my eyes. He had Erica trailing behind him like they weren’t together. She looked sad as hell watching him cause a scene with me. I hope her all the best luck with that.

There was an awkward silence until Paris’ old ass came outside and joined us.

“Baby, I’m ready to go,” she said, walking up and looping her arm into his. He snatched back so quickly that she almost fell on the ground.

“Chill out. You didn’t ride with me, so I don’t know why you’re waiting.”

“Uh…we’re about to go. I’ll see you back at the house,” I said before walking off with Jaylen.

“She lives with you?” I heard her aggravating voice. Feeling accomplished, I smirked.

“You’re petty as hell for that,” Jaylen laughed.

“She was doing too much, and I didn’t do anything to her. I hope I didn’t start anything between her and Demetric.”

“Girl, Meechie don’t like her like that. You see he didn’t stop you.”

I opted not to say anything. I still had my liquor buzz going, and outside of Paris and Gabe trying to ruin my night, I actually had fun tonight. I wasn’t about to let nobody ruin that for me.
