Epilogue
Owen
I look around the space and feel a lot of pride at all the work that has gone into it. My gym. In the heart of town. Cora has her job at the library, her friends and has even joined a book club. So it was her idea that I find something to do with my time.
I wanted to give back to the town, provide a service in some way. It was Kali who suggested a space for wounded Vets to come and hang out. There are a lot of us up here on the mountain. Men who have been wounded and who think they have to hide themselves away from the world. To think that I once thought I was content to live out my life on my own.
With Cora in my life I am now filled with ideas and hope for the future. I put together this gym for the whole town to use, but also as a place to bring ex-military people together. A safe space. And then it was Cora's idea that I should offer self defense classes, especially for women. I walk around now making sure there are plenty of towels, plenty of mugs and glasses in the little kitchenette.
How different my life is now. It is hard to believe I had only one plate, one mug and so on. Now we host dinners with a table full of friends. Our house is filled with laughter and noise. Even Dog seems happier coming to work with me each day.
The door opens and I see Cora walk in. She still takes my breath away with how beautiful she is.
"Look at this place." She spins around with her arms out wide. "And you got the mats set up, excellent." She slips off her shoes and her sexy grin gets an immediate reaction in my groin area.
"I've been wanting you to teach me how to flip someone."
I can tell by the look on her face she is after more than just a lesson in self defense. I check the door is locked. We are not open yet but townspeople having been dropping in to say hello and check out the place.
"You think you can flip me?" I ask. "Or are you maybe hoping to get flipped yourself."
She stands by the mats with that sexy grin.
"I've been thinking about you flipping me all day."
I whip off my t-shirt as I walk slowly towards her. It's only fair. She flipped my life around. If she wants to be flipped, that's exactly what she is going to get. But what comes afterwards will be a hold she can't get out of.
