Chapter Twenty-Six
“Ready to head back to the house?” Spider asked.
“Yeah, sorry. I’m just wiped.” She hated to take him away from his family, especially when they were enjoying having him back for a visit.
He leaned in and dropped a kiss on the tip of her nose.
“Not a problem, wildcat. They’ll understand.
I only stayed this long because you seemed to be enjoying yourself.
” He used his crutches to stand, then scanned the room and headed away from the door.
She let her gaze follow where he was going and realized he was headed for Raven.
She couldn’t leave without saying good night, at least to the president and Taylynn who had been so nice to her, so she followed.
“Hey, we’re going to call it a night,” Spider said as he reached his president.
“You stayed longer than I expected. Do you need one of the prospects to drive you back to the house?”
Spider turned to her. “You good to drive?”
She thought about it for a moment. She hadn’t had that much to drink, but she’d feel better not driving if she didn’t have to. “Is there anyone who hasn’t been drinking?”
“Yeah, I’ve got two prospects on the gate. If they’re not both sober, I’ll be having their ass.” Raven scanned the room, then seemed to spot whatever he was looking for. “Shotgun! Fetch Hunter for me.”
“10-4!” a large man called from the other side of the room.
“Go on out to the truck. I’ll send Hunter as soon as he gets here.”
“Can he drive a standard?” Jordon asked, remembering Hunter had been the kid at the gate when they came in and how she’d thought he reminded her of her younger brother. Wyatt could drive her Jeep, but most of their generation couldn’t.
“Shit. I don’t know. Hang on a sec, he should be here soon”
They didn’t have long to wait before the kid from the gate appeared.
“You wanted me, sir?”
Raven rolled his eyes. “What have I told you about calling me sir?”
“Sorry. It’s a hard habit to break.”
Raven glared for a moment then sighed. “Can you drive a standard?”
Hunter’s eyes went wide. “No. I’ve never had an opportunity.”
Jordon wondered from his expression if he was waiting for the president to take a swing at him. She wondered if he’d learned to be cautious of Raven, or if it was bleeding over from something he’d dealt with growing up.
“Take the truck Dax had in Bozeman, drive Jordon and Spider down to his house. Leave the truck there for them. Then come back and see me.”
“Yes, sir.” Hunter turned and headed for the door. Spider followed, slower on his crutches than usual. Jordon wondered if he was tired or if they were hurting his arms.
“I’m not sure I’ll ever break him of that shit.” Raven said as he rolled his eyes. “Go on, sleep well. We’ll see you tomorrow. There’s not much in the house in the way of food. We didn’t have time to stock it with that, but there’s plenty here. Come on up when you’re ready for breakfast.”
“Thank you,” Jordon said, then followed Spider outside. On the way to the pickup, she stopped by her Jeep and snagged the bag she’d packed.
When they reached the house, she stayed close to Spider, making sure the ramp up to the porch hadn’t iced over and that Spider didn’t slip on his way up.
That was something they needed to do. Add some kind of texture to the ramps, so that in the rain and snow he didn’t fall.
At the door, she opened it and followed him inside.
“You take the bed,” Spider said once they were inside and she’d closed the door. “I’ll sleep on the couch.”
Jordon almost laughed. As if she would take his bed while he slept out here.
“Try again. We’re both adults. We can share the bed. Come on.” She headed for the bedroom. “Do you want a shower before we sleep?”
“I had one this morning and other than walk around a little, I haven’t done anything. But feel free to use the shower if you’d like. I think I saw towels in there.”
“I’ll do that,” Jordon said. She’d been working all morning and felt far too grimy to get into bed—anyone’s bed. Plus, if she was going to curl up next to him, she’d rather smell like shampoo and soap than horse and sweat.
When she’d finished in the shower and stepped back into the bedroom, Jordon found Spider sitting on the edge of the bed wearing a pair of fleece pants and nothing else.
“I wasn’t sure which side of the bed you wanted,” he said, his gaze raking down her body, making her hyperaware of how her nipples tented the thin fabric of the tank top she wore.
“I don’t have a preference. I usually just sprawl out in the middle. You choose where you’re most comfortable and I’ll work around it.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.” She watched him for a moment. “I bet you sleep best on your right side. Do you want me in front of you or behind you?”
“In front, always in front. I have your back, always, wildcat. I thought you’d figured that out by now.”
She couldn’t help but smile. “Yeah, I know that. Get in. I’ll be right back.”
Jordon made a quick walk through the house, making sure all the doors and windows were closed and the lights turned off.
She grabbed a couple of bottles of water from the fridge then went back into the bedroom.
Spider had turned on the light beside the bed and he lay there, a blanket pulled to his waist, as if he was waiting for her before pulling them all the way up.
She put a water bottle on either side of the bed, then climbed in and rolled over to face him, leaving the light on, at least for now.
“Talk to me,” she said, watching him.
“What about?”
“I don’t know. Tell me something you haven’t yet.”
Lines formed between Spider’s brows. “I don’t know what I haven’t told you. We’ve spent so much time on the phone, so much time talking, I just don’t know.”
“Okay, when’s the last time you shared a bed with a woman? I don’t mean sex, I mean slept side by side all night long.”
He blinked. “Never. The only woman I’ve ever slept beside, that I can recall, is you and that nap a few weeks ago.”
“Never?” She couldn’t help lift her brows in disbelief.
“Never. I’ve never trusted anyone enough to sleep next to them.”
“But you do me?” Emotion formed a knot in her throat, making it hard to swallow.
“I do.” He lifted one hand and smoothed a stray strand of hair away from her face with a featherlight touch. “I want more than just to sleep beside you, but that will come in time. Turn off the light then roll over then back up here, wildcat. I want to hold onto you while I sleep.”
“What if that’s not what I want?”
Spider lifted one brow. “What do you want?”
“This.” She scooted closer, set her hand on his bare chest, leaned in and pressed her lips against his.
At first he didn’t respond. But after a moment he seemed to give in.
His hand combed through her hair to cup the back of her head.
He teased her lips apart and she lost herself in his taste, his touch.
Unable to resist the urge, Jordon ran her hands up and down the bare skin of his torso, then teased the skin at the waistband of his pajamas.
“Careful, wildcat. I don’t know how long I can resist touching you.”
“Don’t.”
“What? Don’t touch you?” His voice dropped an octave until it rasped against her senses, sending heat through her and moisture pooling between her legs.
“No. Don’t resist.” She moved one hand to his shoulder and pushed until he rolled onto his back, then moved closer. She went onto her knees, pulled her tank off over her head and tossed it aside before looking down at him. “Am I moving too fast for you?”
“Oh, god.” His gaze roamed her body. “No, wildcat, you’re not moving too fast. But it’s been a while, and I’m not sure I’ve ever wanted anyone as much as I want you.
I don’t know how long I can last. I know I’m going to have to learn to do this all over again.
” He lifted his hands, then hesitated. “Can I touch you?”
Instead of saying anything she moved so she straddled his hips, though she still wore the tiny cotton shorts she typically slept in, took his hands and guided them to her hips.
“Touch me. Move me, show me what you need.”
He groaned.
“I can feel your heat. You’re trying to kill me.” Spider slid his hands down her legs, then back up her torso. When he reached her breasts, he kneaded the mounds, teasing his thumbs back and forth over her taut nipples. “Lean down here. I want to see if these taste as good as they look.”
Jordon put one hand on his chest and leaned toward him.
“Tell me if I hurt you.” He met her gaze for a moment, “Sometimes I can get a little rough. But I don’t want to hurt you.”
“I’ll tell you if you do the same for me. I want this to feel good for you. Tell me what you need.”
“I need everything you’ll give me.”
Jordon didn’t hold back her laugh as she put one hand on the mattress beside his head and leaned closer. “I need your hands and mouth on me, Spider. Touch me.”
Spider took her at her word. He leaned up and sucked one nipple into his mouth, sucking gently at first, then with more force.
One hand kneaded and squeezed the mound of her other breast. Jordon’s mind hazed.
Her body seemed to take off without her brain as Spider’s every touch, every caress enflamed her senses and sent her soaring higher.
She couldn’t resist the need to rock her hips, and she didn’t even try.
His thick erection rubbed against her clit sending a whirlwind of sensations through her.
Jordon teased Spider’s nipple with the hand she’d braced against his chest as she’d leaned down.
Without warning, her back bowed, every muscle in her body clenched, and pleasure nearly blinded her as an orgasm overtook her.
“That was a nice one. Let’s see if we can get do that again,” Spider’s voice had dropped an octave. The thick throbbing between her legs told her he was more than ready.
