Chapter Thirty

“Want something to drink?” Jordon asked as she followed Spider back into his new house. He went straight to the sofa and sat, laying his crutches on the floor so he could get to them later.

“Are there any beers in the fridge?” He let his head fall back against the cushion, telling her he was exhausted. Had he overdone it today?

“I think so. Let me go look.”

When she came back into the living room, she carried a can in each hand.

After handing them both to him, she picked up his crutches and put them next to the door and replaced them with his wheelchair.

He was already tired ... they likely wouldn’t go anywhere but to bed and she wanted things ready before she sat.

“Why two?” Spider asked as she sat beside him.

“One for each of us.”

“Oh.” He popped the top on one can and handed it to her before opening his and taking a long pull. “What do you think?”

“About what?”

“The club, the house, everything.”

“I like it. The house is amazing. The club is ... different. I’m not saying that in a bad way,” she rushed out.

“Just that they’re not what I’m used to, and it will take some time.

” She let her head fall back so it rested on the cushion like his.

She sat looking up at the ceiling as she tried to figure out the best way to say this.

“Is there any way to run the mama’s off? Not permanently. I get that they’re not forced to be here, but for an afternoon or maybe a weekend?”

“I’m sure it could be arranged for the right reasons, why?”

“I’m afraid they’d be a fight waiting to happen when my family comes to visit. I don’t even want to think about what Daddy would say.”

“Your dad knows about them.”

Jordon lifted her head so she could look at him with all the amazement she couldn’t keep off her face.

“You told him?”

“Yeah. I told him they’re here, but that they’re here because they want to be. The Angels aren’t total assholes who take that kind of choice from a woman.”

“Oh. Well, then maybe we only run them off when my brothers are around? At least Wyatt and Kade? At least until they’re of age?”

“Does this mean you’re going to move in with me?” He rolled his head on the back of the couch so he looked at her.

“Maybe. It depends.”

“On what?” Spider asked.

“Why? Why do you want me to come live with you?”

Spider took her hand, lifted it between them and held on as he met her gaze.

“Because you inspire me. You make me want to be better. I woke up after the accident and felt like I’d been wrecked and ruined.

Like I’d never ride again, and because of that I’d lose the only family that means anything to me.

” He waved his other hand. “I know that’s not true.

My brothers wouldn’t do that to me, but that’s what I was thinking at the time.

Then you and your dad walked in and something changed.

At first I thought it was him. Your dad showing me it could be done.

Then there was the week you were busy with the horse and didn’t come with him.

That was when I knew it wasn’t him. It was you. So much has changed since then.”

He lifted their joined hands and kissed the back of hers.

“I want you to move in because I don’t ever want to be without you again.

I’ve spent too long looking for someone who makes me feel like you do.

I’d given up on finding it. And then you walked in.

” Spider shook his head. “I don’t know what it was, but you inspire me to be something more.

You make me want to prove the world wrong.

Somehow, you managed to slip past my defenses.

I want you with me because I’ve fallen in love with you.

I want to spend every moment I can showing you how precious that is to me.

I want to be the one by your side. I want my name on your back.

I want to be the one to protect you. To provide for you.

I want to be the one who makes you laugh and the one who makes you so mad you just want to scream and hit.

I want to be your entire world the same way you’ve become mine. ”

Jordon didn’t bother to wipe away the tears that pooled in her eyes, then fell to streak down her face. Instead, she leaned in and whispered one word.

“Yes.”

“Yes?”

“Yes,” she whispered again.

“But, why?”

“Because I love you too. I know you were wrecked and ruined, and that it will be a lot of work, much of it not pleasant, to get back to where you want to be. But I want to be there for it. I want to cheer you on. I want to prove that I know you can do it. I want to be the one to help you get there. I want to see what kind of life we can build together.”

“A life. That’s what we’ll build together.”

“I can get behind that.” she leaned in and kissed him. “To a lifetime together. Spider and Jordon.” She lifted her beer in toast. He picked up his from where he’d shoved it between the cushions and lifted it.

“To Devon and Jordon. To the rest of the world, I’m Spider. But to you, only you, I’m me, just Devon.” He tapped his can against hers then took a long pull.

She took a drink then relaxed into his side. If this was what life with Devon would look like, she could get used to this.
