Chapter 25 Lily
Lily
Toby grabs my elbow and drags me along the bench seat. I don’t have the strength to fight him, but I know I need to stay. How else will Shade find me? Except he doesn’t know where I am. I didn’t reply to his text.
Fog fills my head. Didn’t reply to whose text? And why is this guy pulling me? He said I needed fresh air. He wants me to leave with him.
My arms flail. “Get off me!”
Toby lets go and I scramble back along the bench seat. It’s so hot in here, and I can’t breathe. My mouth is parched. It feels like it’s stuffed with cottonwool balls. My hands go to my cheeks. They’re wet. Did I know I was crying?
“Hey, don’t get upset,” Toby says. “If you need a moment, that’s fine. We’ve got all night, baby.”
“No. I want to… to go home.”
Toby’s followed me back to my corner of the booth. His knee touches mine. “I can get you somewhere safe, somewhere quiet. Would you like that?” His breath warms my neck and a finger traces my bare arm.
I try to stay focused. “Please. Leave me alone.”
“Look at that,” he says, examining my arm. “I’ve given you goosebumps.”
Do I tell him it’s because I’m thinking of what happened to the last man who touched me without my consent? My stomach roils. I just want to close my eyes, but I don’t dare.
I frown at Toby as I try to stay awake. I can’t remember who he is. “What am I doing here?”
“You’re my girl,” he croons.
“The fuck she is,” comes a growl from behind him.
