Chapter 16 Kyran
Kyran
I think she might have fallen asleep on me last night. She didn't respond to my last three messages, and I didn't want to keep bothering her, so I turned on a movie before falling asleep myself. But I'll admit, it was hard, but I did it.
Now, as I sit in an early morning meeting, I can't count the minutes fast enough, anticipating the moment I can answer her texts that are coming in.
I feel my phone buzz.
Then another buzz.
This is torture. I can only wonder what her messages are saying. It's become a problem how deeply eager I am to talk to her.
And tonight is our FaceTime date.
It's not too much longer before the meeting ends, but before I can even excuse myself from the conference table, my assistant forces an emergency call on me with one of my high-profile clients.
Which then ends up bleeding into my next meeting.
It's one thing after the other and unfortunately, I don't have time to even look at my phone before my workday is practically up.
But then I finally get a chance to read the messages she left at nearly eight this morning.
I'm so sorry, I fell asleep on you last night. My bad.
Good morning, Kyran.
I hope work is going well.
I start to type out a response but before I can come up with anything, my assistant barges back into my office and declares that another one of my clients is on the phone and is freaking out about something.
I sigh, frustrated, but pick up the phone and listen as my client jumps into a panicked agenda that has me groaning; demanding that I fly out for an emergency meeting with his attorney in regard to his will.
Something that I can easily do over the phone but sometimes I get the clients that are so rich, they're irrational.
After agreeing to the customer's request and calming him down, I'm finally able to respond to Weslyn and I don't waste another second doing so.
4:19pm
I'm so sorry it's taken me this long. Work got crazy busy. Found out I have to make an impromptu trip out of the state tomorrow. I hope you've had a good day and I look forward to our date tonight. Again, so sorry for the lack of replies today.
I pack up my shit and head home before anything else stops me.
It's nearing seven pm and I still haven't heard back from Weslyn.
I don't think she's the type of girl to get irritated that it took me so long to text her back, so I do wonder if something happened to her.
Or maybe she's just as busy as I'd gotten earlier.
I do know she is likely still at work and probably busy right now.
But I text her to let her know I'm thinking about her anyway.
6:48pm
What do I gotta do to get you out of work right now?
7:09pm
I hope everything is okay.
7:42pm
Weslyn?
