Chapter 8 #2

“They think it’s their gym. If one isn’t down my back about something, the other one is. My mother wants me to have classes taught, while my father wants me to add more to them. I get what they’re saying, but they’re not letting me do what I want with my business.”

“Maybe they want to help...”

He looked at me and scowled. “Yeah, nah. They want to be in charge.”

“I guess every parent is like that. Mine were like that too. They wanted me to start my own vet clinic after I finished school. They never approve of my getting a job for someone else. I told them I wanted to crawl before I walked, and that didn’t sit well with them.”

He laughed. “Yeah, I can see that. Parents only want what’s best for us. At the same time, we want to do things on our own. My parents love each other, but they love my siblings and me more. I think you’ll fit right in.” I smiled, hoping Nash was right.

We were silent for the rest of the ride. I hoped his sisters liked me too. Since they were a pair, there was no telling who was nice or mean, so I’d have to wait and see.

From my house to his parents, the commute took at least fifteen minutes. They lived in a beautiful white and blue traditional family home.

“Your family’s house looks amazing!” I gushed in awe.

“Thanks. This house has changed so much over the years. This is the latest model. Hopefully, they don’t change it again.” He turned his car off and turned to me. “Are you ready?”

I nodded. “Yes, I can do this. You said they are harmless, right?”

Nash laughed. “Yeah, they are.” He exited the car and came around to open the car door for me. I retrieved my cell phone from my purse and left the purse in the car. “Hold tight. Let me get the bags out of the trunk. Unless you want to go ahead around the back.”

I shook my head quickly. “Nah. I’ll wait for you.”

He chuckled. “I knew you’d say that.”

Once Nash grabbed the bags out of the trunk, we walked around the house.

I offered to carry some bags, but he told me he had them.

He had me walk in front of him, and I felt his eyes on my ass.

I heard music being played, along with loud laughter.

I gulped and looked at him over my shoulder when I was at the gate.

Nash smirked. “Open the gate for me.”

I did what was instructed and waited for him to walk in before I came in behind him.

I closed the gate and turned to everyone.

All eyes were on me too, and I froze. I hated being the center of attention.

His family genes were too strong too. Nash looked like his mother and father.

His sisters were their mother’s twin too.

I snapped out of it and kept moving toward them with a smile on my face.

“Hi, everyone.” I waved.

They were all friendly, waving back at me.

“Nashton, why don’t you do the honors and introduce us to your beautiful friend?” one of his sisters called out.

Nash sent a glare her way. “Hands off, Dalesha. She doesn’t go that way.”

Dalesha ducked her head, hiding a smile. “If you say so, brother. Everyone can’t resist my charms.”

The only thing I could do was shake my head.

“Family, I want you to meet a very important person in my life. Her name is Kenzlee Wilson. Beautiful, I want you to meet my backbones, my parents, Katrina and Daryl Sims, and my sisters, Dalesha and Talesha.”

I waved at them again. “Nice to meet you all.” It warmed my heart when Nash told his family that I was someone special in his life.

I went to claim a seat and waited for Nash to talk to his parents.

I strolled through my social media accounts and smiled at some comments I got.

Some men were so thirsty that it made no sense.

I shook my head at them and went on TikTok.

During my free time, I liked to watch other people color too.

As much as I wanted to start a colortok page, I didn’t. That would be too much on me.

Nash came and claimed a seat next to me. “Are you good? Do you want anything to drink? We have soda or even wine coolers if you want that.”

“I’ll take a soda. Since I haven’t eaten anything, I don’t want to drink alcohol on an empty stomach.”

He nodded. “Fair enough. The food should be ready soon. My family eats as a family.”

I waved what he said off. “I’m fine and am okay with that. I’m okay with waiting.”

While we waited, Nash’s sisters came and talked to me.

“How long have you and our brother been talking?” Dalesha asked.

“It’s been a month now.”

Her eyes widened in shock. “What? Really? That’s a short amount of time, yet y’all look so cozy together.”

If only she knew we’ve been more than cozy with each other. Hell, he ate my box out of the frame. Heat tinted my cheeks at the thought that ran through my mind.

Nash got up and left me to talk with his sisters. He was wrong for that, but I could handle my own. They seemed like nice women.

“Yeah, your brother is very nice and caring. Since getting to know him, I’ve never had to question how he feels about me.” Although we weren’t in a relationship, Nash and I grew very close fast. I could see us getting into a relationship very soon too.

Talesha smiled. “That’s our brother. No matter who he meets, he’s always friendly. Everyone likes to be around him.”

I’d been seeing that too. Nash was a man many people liked, which was a good thing.

Nash came back with the Coke and gave it to me. It was too cold for me to drink right now. I couldn’t stand to drink a beverage that was too cold. It gave me chills even if it was hot outside.

When his parents finished with the food, we all sat at the long table with all the food in front of us. All of it had my mouth watering. I couldn’t wait to dive in.

“What is it that you do for a living, Kenzlee?” Nash’s mother asked me.

“I’m a veterinarian,” I stated proudly.

Talesha shook her head. “Oh no, ma’am. Animals and I don’t mix at all. I couldn’t.”

I chuckled because Farrah had said the same thing before.

Dalesha smacked her lips, reaching for a dinner roll. “You’re only saying that because we’re allergic.”

Talesha mean mugged her sister but said nothing.

“Is the work hard? Do the animals bite?”

I nodded. “Yes. Some do bite, but I have a way of calming them down.”

They all stared at me as if I spoke another language. Nash had a small smile on his face as he ate.

“For real?” his father asked in awe.

I only nodded.

“Do you handle stray animals too? I have a lot of raccoons around my house that need to get the hell away.” His mother pouted.

I threw my head back and laughed. “No, ma’am, I don’t deal with them. I don’t think I have the calmness in me to get those to cooperate with me. When I was a child maybe, but not right now.”

They laughed, and we continued to eat and have a good time.

The weather was pleasant and cozy for some soup.

Miss Katrina made some of the best chicken and dumplings I had ever tasted.

I could admit that I enjoyed Nash’s family.

They made me feel welcome. Before we left, his sisters and I exchanged numbers.

I made sure I took some of the peach pie his mother made too.

I felt content that I almost didn’t want to go home.
