Chapter 33
Chapter Thirty-Three
Zac
“Where’s Momma going?” Gray asks as I set up all the pillows in the fort and Presley is upstairs getting ready. I love the skirt she is wearing. I guess I’d love it more if she was here with me, and I was lifting it up.
“She’s going to dinner with her friends.”
“Rora?”
“Yep, and Luna and Bree,” I add. “They are gonna go eat then do girly things.” He looks back over his shoulder toward the stairs. “And we are gonna have us a boys’ night.” Trying to distract him I continue. “I was going to order us some cheese pizza and I made your favorite Kool-Aid. Then later I have a surprise, a real manly thing we can do, just us boys.”
“What?” He finally seems interested.
“I’ll show you later.” I’d rather explain later than ask permission now from his mother. “But I promise you bud, you will love it.”
I hear the clicking of heels, looking up just in time to see Presley walking down the stairs. Her hair is down, all curled and flowing. Instantly I grab one of the smaller pillows and place it in front of me. She notices smiling as she walks closer. The same confidence from the night she crawled up me like a spider monkey has returned. It’s almost like she is shining and happy and I fucking love it.
I’d like to say it’s all because of me but I think it’s also related to the fact she’s finally accepted she deserves more.
“What are my boys going to do with their night?”
“Boys stuff,” Grayson announces. “Manly stuff girls can’t help.”
“Oh really,” she says with a smile and leans over to place a kiss on top his head. “Well, have fun, baby.” Then her eyes land on me and I swear the ground beneath me tilts. She’s somehow making me fall in love a little deeper each day and I’m not even sure she realizes it.
“You too, baby.” And with that she moves in and without pause kisses my lips. Grayson giggles and throws himself over onto the pillows and I pull her body in closer. She ends up straddling my lap, her eyes widening when she feels me beneath her.
“Have I mentioned what seeing you in a skirt does to me?” I lift my hips a little and she gasps then covers her mouth, laughing.
“Later,” I say with a waggle of my brows, before kissing her once again.
“You make me happy.” It’s a confession. I am not even sure she meant to say out loud but it’s far too late to take it back.
“You make me happy too.” Cupping her face I deepen our kiss making her moan. “You go have fun with the girls, and when you get home later, you and I can have a little us time.”
“Sounds promising.”
“I promise to make your head spin, but I’ll show you how when you get home.”
“I think I know exactly what’s running through your mind, and I’m game.” Offering me a quick peck she stands and evens out her skirt still watching me. “I love us time.” She winks, spins around, and walks toward the door. Grabbing her purse and her keys she blows a kiss to Gray and I and then she is gone.
And instantly I miss her.
“So about that pizza.” I grab my phone and settle on the pillows. “Half cheese and half combo?”
“What’s combo?” Grayson settles in at my side, basically mirroring my exact stance.
“It’s got onions and olives,” I say, looking up the number for Mitchell’s pizza a few streets over. “You like that stuff?”
“Eww.” He wrinkles up his nose. “Cheese it is.” I laugh dialing the number. Putting in the order for pizza I add in an order of wings and cheesy bread too. Knowing it will be about an hour I turn on cartoons and do my best to distract Gray.
Before long the doorbell is ringing and we are both moving toward the door, I let him win and he laughs as I scoop him up and peek through the hole. My man, Marco, is on the opposite side. Setting Grayson down I hand him the fifty. “You can pay and tell him to keep the change.”
I open the door, take the food and watch as Grayson does exactly what I said. Marco gives him a high five, then Gray takes off across the room toward the kitchen.
“I didn’t know you had kids, man.” He glances around the space.
“That’s Grayson and got another on the way.” He may not be my blood but I love him like he is my own. I know when the baby comes that won’t change, they are both mine and so is their mother.
“Damn.” He shakes his head. “I got two myself, best thing that’s ever happened to me is becoming a father.”
I nod, and turn around as I hear the chair scoot across the floor. “I better feed the boy. We’re having ourselves a guys’ night while mom’s out with friends for dinner.”
“Well. Enjoy.” He steps back. “Threw a few extra wings in the box for you.” He waves his hand as he walks down the sidewalk to his awaiting car.
Joining Grayson in the kitchen we grab some plates and cups. I put his drink in one with a lid and move everything over to the table. Normally I’d just eat on the couch, but with Grayson and Presley here I’ve been trying to use the table more.
I put a slice on his plate with a piece of cheesy bread and when I lift a wing to my mouth I notice the way he is watching me. “What’s up, bud?”
He looks from the wing to me and then back to the wing.
“You want to try one?”
He nods so I pick one up and set it on his plate. They aren’t too spicy, more sweet with a little tang. “Here, tear off the chicken and then dip it in here.” I push the ranch dressing toward him and watch as he digs in. His little face lights up when he starts to chew.
“You like that?”
Without stopping he keeps tearing off the meat and dipping it in the sauce. There’s more ranch on his face and fingers than in his mouth. I know we’ll have to hit the showers when we are done.
I can’t help but grin happily as we sit side by side eating and talking about what’s next. Like two best friends.
