Zephyr Chapter 2 #2

Even if we were using it more as a cover than as a business we had to make money with, we still gave customers excellent service.

And it showed in the steady business we did.

It was a moneymaker in two ways—illegal and legal.

Some citizens, I think, thought it was exciting to have a bunch of bikers as their funeral providers.

Regardless, we had people come from miles around to hold their funeral services with us.

We had another hour before closing time. It was Friday, so it meant we’d have the weekend off. I had no idea where Icelander was. Slayer, I thought, was working on a stiff for a service tomorrow. Our mortician, Benicio, had finished embalming him a couple of hours ago.

The front-of-house staff was doing their thing.

The women had partially turned toward me.

Those two sentences were all I could get out.

I tried not to stare at the goddess and to keep my mind on what Myron said.

We had no services happening at the moment, so it was quiet.

I was headed up front to check whether anything needed my attention before leaving.

I’d been to the staff room for a cup of coffee.

As I got close to the visitors’ entrance, I heard voices.

I stopped at the mouth of the hallway, not wanting to disturb them, but I was bored and thought I’d check out who was here.

Was it for a new arrangement, prearrangement, or one of the people already set for a funeral with us in the next few days?

Our funeral director, Myron, stood there speaking to two women.

They had their backs to me. One was a strawberry blond with a slender build.

My eyes automatically scanned her, then skipped over to the other one.

My gaze locked onto the second one and stayed there.

My perusal of her from behind revealed a body with wide hips, a plump ass, and, from what I could see, softness in all the right places on the backside of her.

Her hair hung to her waist. It appeared thick, straight, and soft black, not harsh.

Her voice was husky, deeper than most women’s but not unfeminine.

The blonde’s voice was higher. I wanted the brunette to turn so I could see what the front half of her was like.

She was dressed for the weather in Capri pants, sandals, and a tank top.

When she didn’t turn around, I decided to interject myself into the conversation.

I started walking further into the visitor area. Myron saw me and nodded.

“Is there something you need, Zephyr?” he asked.

He’d tried at the beginning to call us mister along with our road names. When we told him no, he asked for our actual names, but we refused to tell him. Finally, he got with the program and called us simply by our road names. The women turned toward me as I answered him.

“No, I was coming to check on how everything is going. Don’t let me interrupt you. Please continue.”

The women had partially turned toward me. Those two sentences were all I could get out. I tried not to stare at the goddess and to keep my mind on what Myron said.

“Of course. Ladies, this is Zephyr. He manages the Norse Passage funeral home for his club. I’ve been fortunate to work here for the past five years with Zephyr and the rest of our team.

Zephyr, this is Allegra Moore and Everlyn Forrest. They’re here to make arrangements for Ms. Moore’s grandfather, who just passed away. ”

Without him telling me, I knew Allegra was the one who had lost someone. Her eyes were red. Everlyn was calm, almost stoic. I knew what to say after all these years in the business.

“Ms. Moore, we’re deeply sorry for your loss. I’m sure we’ll be able to meet all your needs. If you ladies have any questions, feel free to ask Myron or me.”

“Thank you,” Allegra said softly.

I noted Everlyn—goddamn, I loved her name—merely nodded at me.

“As I was saying,” Myron launched back into his spiel. I leaned against the wall and listened, or I pretended I did. In actuality, I was covertly checking out Everlyn Forrest.

I wasn’t disappointed, not even a bit. Her front side more than lived up to her backside.

Her tank barely restrained her tits, although she didn’t have them hanging out on display.

I knew immediately that they’d overflow my large hands.

She was curvy, with a tucked-in waist and a softness to her stomach. Her skin was golden bronze.

Looking at her face, I knew she had a healthy dose of Native American blood in her. For a second, my mind flashed back to the woman I saved that night so long ago. I shoved that memory away.

Everlyn’s face was oval with a slightly squared chin. Generous pink lips and a short, rather petite nose were topped by honey-brown eyes with thick, dark eyelashes and gently arched, full brows. She was fucking drop-dead stunning. There was no other word for her.

And in that moment, I knew I had to have her.

I would do whatever it took to make it happen.

For the first time in my life, I understood what might drive a man to want to snatch a woman and run away with her.

Would I do it? No, but I understood it. Since kidnapping was out, that left me with only one option.

I had to find ways to be around her and figure out how to get her into my bed or me into hers.

She had my heart pounding, my palms sweating, and my cock wanting to tent the front of my jeans. I fought to control that one. I wasn’t willing to do anything that would make her run. Because if she did, I’d give chase. By Odin, the All-Father, what was happening to me?
