Chapter 113
ALMOST TWO WEEKS after the dust had settled on our investigation, our lives seemed to get back to normal. I made it a point to spend a lot more time with Julie. I invited Mrs. Rose over for coffee on the weekends. I even took a few days off just to hang out at our apartment.
Joe had done the same. Martha lay on her living room dog bed in the corner. Her consistent wheeze told me she was breathing. Maybe not as clearly as I would’ve wished, but there was still air moving through her lungs.

Brady said, “Sorry to bother you, Linds. We just found a body near the Ferry Terminal. We need you.”
Reality was calling my name.
