Chapter 10

Jack

I am ogling Charlie’s legs as she drives us home to Woodinville from the courthouse in Seattle. I am still not okay to drive. I get vertigo anytime I am moving other than walking.

Cars, elevators, escalators, anything that moves beneath me make me feel dizzy and unbalanced. Fortunately, bouncing up and down fucking on the bed has not been a problem so far.

Charlie and I celebrated by ordering more Philly Cheese sandwiches and washing them down with a nice Merlo wine. We snuck out back in the nude to soak in the hot bubbling water of the jacuzzi.

We raced into the house quickly when we were through soaking. Giggling like a couple of giddy teenagers. We were just ready to go to the bedroom when I received a call on my cellphone. I wondered who it is when I don’t recognize the number.

“This is your only warning. Stay away from court or you will regret it. We left an example at your house,” the phone clicked off before I could say a word.

Moments later, I received a call from my neighbor across the street from my home in Bellevue. “I’m sorry Jack. Your house is going up in flames. It looks like it will be a total loss,” Jerry told me.

Immediately, I called Detective Curtis and told him about what was said in the warning and then my house burned down minutes later. When I told him where I am, he told me to stay put where I’m at since no one knows about my relationship with Charlie.

Charlie went to the grocery store on Tuesday to stock up with a couple of weeks’ worth of groceries. She also bought a case of beer and a couple bottles of liquor.

I felt a bit of foreboding as we brought the purchases into the house. “Don’t worry sweetie, we will be perfectly safe here till the trial is over. It is Leena that will put Damian away for a good long while.

It was two weeks before the main trial began. When It was my turn to testify, the police had me at a safe location when I testified through an internet connection. Before I testified, it was explained to the judge that I had been warned by Damian’s associates and then my house was burned down.

The judge was obviously upset with that news. “Mr. Biggalow, this will be revisited if there is a sentencing hearing,” The judge told Damian’s lawyer. When the lawyer tried to object that it can’t be proved that his associates did that, the judged told him to sit down and shut up.

My testimony took about 10 minutes. I again described the events on the day I was injured. I showed the video that showed that Damian was in my bedroom and having sex with my wife. I showed the video of Leena and him dumping me in the ER.

Leena’s testimony took quite a bit longer. Not only did she corroborate my story that it was Damian that bashed me on the head, she also testified to a lot more criminal activities that Damian was involved in.

The jury only took two hours to come back with a guilty verdict. He was convicted of Attempted 2nd degree murder with great bodily harm. The judge sentenced Damian to 240 months. Twenty years.

Leena was escorted out a secret back door by the Marshalls detailed to take her off to her new life somewhere undisclosed. That’s fine with me. I have no desire to know where she went.
