Chapter 8

Gwen

This is religious persecution. What I did to Jack was necessary. He needs to be saved from his life of sin and debauchery. It’s not bad enough that he writes those books that are nothing more than literary pornography.

I know in my heart that he lusts after other women. There is no doubt in my mind that he has sex with women who come to his book signings.

These police are heathens. They are the work of the devil. They have no idea how serious things are for Jack. If I don’t save him…well, who knows where he might end up?

Jack

Because I would not pay to bail Gwen out of jail, Gwen remained in jail for two weeks before her case was seen on a Monday after lunch.

There were a dozen people outside the courthouse claiming religious persecution. Claiming this was the work of the devil. Because she had been stuck in jail, Gwen had agreed to a speedy trial.

Earlier today, Gwen had been served in her jail cell with her divorce papers. Part of me felt sorry for her. I am heartbroken for what her mother and her extremist church had turned Gwen into. But then I remember that I almost died at her hand by being poisoned by Halcion.

The trial lasted less than two hours. After hearing all the evidence and from what I stated in the witness box, it took twenty minutes for the jury to reach a verdict of guilty of First Degree assault by poisoning.

Gwen received a ten year sentence. Five years of it would be incarceration. The other five would be on parole.

I was angry when I left the courthouse. I rushed up to the gaggle of church people with the signs. “You did this to her. It is your brainwashing that has caused this to happen,” I screamed at them.

When a TV reporter came over because of my ruckus, I had an interview with her and vehemently proclaimed that the religious extremism that is spreading all over the US is dangerous and ruining families,” I told the reporter.

“And who is this next to you? Isn’t it adultery to be with another women when you are married?” The reported chided me.

“As of this morning, I am legally separated from my soon to be ex-wife,” I hissed. “As a matter of fact, it is completely legal to date when separated. Especially since I have also filed for divorce,” I educated the reporter.

“I have proved that my wife almost killed me. Is that not enough pain for me to endure?” I asked her.

“I didn’t think you would answer that,” I growled when the reporter stood motionless.

I took Lauren’s arm in mine and led her away from the reporter.

We drove home to the luxurious condo and spent the rest of the afternoon fucking like newlyweds.
