Chapter 7

I noticed over the past three months that Angie had been spending time building a friendship with my mother. While Angie and I were fucking our brains out every opportunity we got all summer, Angie had building trust with my mother.

What I didn’t know about Angie was that her divorce from Joey’s father had left her independently wealthy. The three day trip away from home she took last week was to buy a small mansion on Capitol Hill in Salt Lake near the university where I was going to start school in September.

I was surprised to find Angie sitting at the kitchen table with my mom when I got up Friday morning. I stood back behind the entryway out of sight while they continued their conversation.

Angie: So, of you let him come and live in my mansion he will be close to the college and not have an hour of commute time each day.

Mom: Won’t this be a huge imposition on you?

Angie: Oh not at all! Jack and I have become close friends. This would be very nice for me. I get lonely living alone sometimes.

Mom: But won’t that mean I won’t be seeing him anymore?

Angie: Oh goodness no! He can come visit you on the weekends. In fact, he could come and stay at home on the weekends that my son visits me.

Angie: This will be a great opportunity for Jack to grow up away from mom. But I will keep a close eye on him just like you would.

Angie: Jack has to grow up at some time. This will sort of be like a safety net.

Mom: When you put it like that, it makes a lot of sense.

Angie: My son comes to visit every other weekend. That would give me a weekend to be alone with my son and for you to have the weekend with your son.

,

Mom: Yes! That could be doable.

My heart jumped in my chest that mom was agreeing to let me live with Angie in Salt Lake City. This was the first I heard of a mansion. But I wouldn’t care if it were a trailer house. Just as long as I could live with Angie.

Angie: Could Jack come over about 4pm tonight? I’ll have him help me do some pre-packing before the Moving guys show up Monday morning. And I’ll make him dinner,”

Mom: Sure! I’m certain that Jack would love to help you.

A broad smile washed across my face. “You have no idea how much I am going to help her,” flashed across my mind.

“Good morning Mom,” I announced as I entered the kitchen. “Oh, hello Angie,” I added as if surprised that she was there. “Angie has something she needs your help with this afternoon,” mom announced. “That will be a pleasure,” I answered while I smiled at Angie.
