Chapter 2
Jack
Jenny and I went through a year of couple’s counselling. A year that I slept in the guest bedroom and we had no sexual relations whatsoever.
In the beginning, Jenny tried to make it sound like it was all my fault that she cheated. She claimed that I did not pay enough attention to her. She said that I never tried to romance her. She said I did not try to interest her sexually.
On the next visit to the counselor, I brought many dozens of cards I had given Jenny in the years past. Cards with love notes or poetry inside. I had dozens of photos of the flowers I had bought her over the years that she just threw away the next day.
I had receipts for cancelled trips that I had arranged and then she backed out of because she had work obligations.
“Well Jenny, it looks to me like your husband was trying to make you happy as hard as he could.” The therapist told Jenny.
“So, now you are putting this all on me?” Jenny hissed at the counselor. “No my dear. I’m saying that you put this all on yourself,” the therapist answered.
“Look, if this is too much, we can just go ahead and file for divorce,” I hissed and then left the room. I was just getting into the hummer when Jenny came flying out of the therapist’s building.
Jenny was sobbing when she reached the vehicle. “Please don’t leave me Jack. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry,” she sobbed.
“The first thing we need to establish is that I did not do anything to deserve what you did to me. If you were unhappy with me, we should have talked about it or you should have left me.
But fucking Robert for five years was not acceptable in any fucking manner,” I told Jenny. “Until you realize that, we have nothing left to say and we have no business staying together,” I added. Jenny cried all the way home. We did not speak again till the following week in therapy.
“Where are things at today?” The therapist asked. “If it’s up to me, I am ready to move in another direction and start over with my life,” I reported what was in my mind at that moment.
“WAIT-WAIT!” Jenny cried out. “Please let me say what I need to say,” she pleaded. “You were right last week about what you said about Jack. He did try everything to give me attention and be romantic,” Jenny told the therapist.
“And you were right too Jack. You absolutely did not do anything to cause what I did to you. It is all on me. It was my selfish lust and need to feel desired by someone who wasn’t my husband. Robert was just the man that snapped me up when I began being flirty and provocative.
“Robert had total control over me after that. He would brag that he was better than you. He would threaten to tell you that I was his slut. He rubbed my face in my weakness and told me that if you or Krista ever found out he would say that I seduced him and in a moment of weakness took the pussy that was offered to him,” Jenny told us.
“So that is why all these years that you treated me like anything I did just didn’t matter?” I asked. “I was filled with so much guilt and remorse that I took it out on you. And I couldn’t let you love me or be nice to me because I did not deserve it,” Jenny sniveled close to sobbing again.
That turned out to be a breakthrough day for us. I hugged Jenny and told her that if she could be patient that we could start over and make a new relationship for the two of us.
Wanting to get a little further away from Robert over in Queen Anne, I bought us a new home in Bellevue overlooking Lake Washington. It was a different view from Elliott Bay. But a beautiful view none the less.
On Halloween night. The night of our anniversary and nearly a year since I caught Jenny cheating, I finally went to bed with her that night and made love to her.
After nearly an entire year of only masturbation, it felt exquisite to be inside my wife’s pussy again for the first time since all hell broke loose.
It was shortly after we finally started sleeping together that Jenny found a better job that paid her better. She became the receptionist and secretary for a new Dental office that opened straight west of us on I-90 on Mercer Island.
When she started working there, she left at 9:30am to open the office at 10am. She would return at 6:30pm after closing the office at 6pm. She told me that she would take her lunch hours from noon till 1pm.
The office was opened by two young dentists just out of dentistry school. One was 27 years old the other was 28. They each had their own dental hygienist as their assistants. Both women in their early 40’s and married.
With Jenny being 28 when she was first hired, she seemed to fit in well with the young doctors of dentistry. Things went smoothly for several years. Jenny and I seemed to grow closer.
With my working from home, I cooked our meals during the week. Jenny was home on time most days except during the baseball season she could get slowed up a bit. Though most of the traffic was west bound when she was returning to the east.
Slowly, over the course of time, things began to change. Almost perceptively until I could look back much later and see the signs I missed.
There were times that I called at lunch when she was away from the office and she did not answered her calls or texts. She would call later to say she left her phone in the charger at the office.
There were occasional days when she would go to work an hour early saying that the office needed some extra cleaning that needed to be done without patients in the building.
There were occasionally evenings when she was late getting home because she stopped for drinks with her employers on the way home.
One thing I missed completely was that during her first year at the office, Jenny regularly regaled me with stories about what hopeless womanizers the two young men were.
I never noticed when that stopped. Or when she stopped mentioning their names altogether.
When she had to say their name, it was always their official title of Dr. Jeffries or Dr. Schooner.
Why the change? Of course the stories went away as well.
It was about a year ago that Jenny started going out for “Ladies Night Out” with her girlfriends from work.
Remember? The other two married women? Now Jenny goes out every Tuesday at 8:30 pm with an uber and doesn’t return to well after midnight.
Sometime 2am or 3am in the morning stinking of alcohol and men’s cologne.
Curiously, Jenny always takes a quick shower no matter how late it is.
Just like she takes a shower immediately after getting home on the nights she is late from work.
I am beginning to wonder why it is that she doesn’t get home till after 9pm sometimes when the office closes at 6pm.
Yes, I have a memory. I remember what happened 5 years ago. Yes, I am beginning to worry.
The old red flags that I missed the first time are floating to the top now. It is just now that I am questioning the signs I just mentioned.
