Chapter 1
He has always been an arrogant and self-centered prick. If he wasn’t my brother, I would have kicked him to the curb years ago. But you can’t pick the family you get stuck with.
My success did not go unnoticed. Six months before my second enlistment ended, I was called into my commanders office where two men in black suites were waiting for me.
I was stunned when the colonel excused himself and left his own office. “We’re here to recruit you to come work for the US Cyber Security Agency,” The taller and older of the two men announced.
There was a short discussion that followed where the men informed me that they wanted to train me to work as a cyber investigator that would concentrate on child porn and sex trafficking.
They informed me that once I was trained, I would be able to mostly work from home. They informed me that my pay would be 70 thousand dollars per year to start. I would have all of the electronics provided and that I would be given a company car.
There was a couple moments of silence after they quit talking.
They were both looking at me as if they were expecting me to respond.
“So what now? How is it that I sign up?” I finally broke the silence.
The younger man smiled and opened the file he had in his hands.
“You just sign this paperwork we brought and then there will be a car to pick you up at 8am on Monday morning,” the man told me.
“What about the last six months of my enlistment?” I asked dumbfounded. “You will complete your enlistment at our training facility,” the older man answered with a broad grin.
At soon to be 26 years old, there was no way I could turn down an offer like this. My enlistment had been exactly designed to build a skill that would give me a marketable skill.
