Epilogue
After two continuances, the judge denied her third attempt and told her lawyer to present their case. I was surprised when her lawyer immediately conceded that Lilly had had an affair. “An unfortunate mistake,” he called it.
Lilly’s lawyer stated that Lilly desperately wants to make up for her mistake, does not want to end the marriage and would agree to counselling if I would agree to that.
“There is no counselling or manner of making up that could ever erase the betrayal that Jack feels that his wife had an on going affair with his brother that he caught them in the act of,” Jerry announced to the open court.
My client agrees to split all property and money in the checking account,” Jerry told the court. “My client will agree to pay alimony for one year or until his estranged wife gets married again,” Jerry offered.
When it came time for the judge to make his ruling, he cited the fact that he allowed 6 months for Lilly to convince me not to divorce her.
“You husband plainly has no desire to continue matrimony with you,” he told Lilly abruptly.
Then, he announced that he granted the divorce.
“Better luck next time,” the judge told me.
Donny’s case was the next up and he was visibly very angry about the whole ordeal. But his anger and hostility only served to piss the judge off.
“You have the audacity to sleep with your brother’s wife and yet you do not want a divorce?” The judge asked tersely. “I have receipts here for hotel visits that go back two years,” the judge pointed out.
Donny grumbled that that was all circumstantial evidence. “Well, here’s the deal,” The judge rasped as he leaned forward to stare at Donny. “Based on the circumstances brought to my court, I grant your wife her divorce from you,” The judge growled.
It thrilled me to see the displeasure on Lilly and Donny’s face when I walked out of the court holding hands with Jill who is four months pregnant with my baby in her belly.
“Just one more thing you were incapable of doing for your wife,” I called over to Donny while I held the door open for Jill to get into my SUV.
It delighted me to see the scowl on my brother’s face. I took great pleasure that Donny had to divide his property in half with Jill. Donny would have to now support Lilly or she would have to move back with her mother.
