Chapter 6

Jack

The next four years passed quickly. Angel and I became constant and very intimate lovers. We spent most weekends on the Virginia east coast at a B+B. We were not doing anything wrong. We just wanted our privacy. We didn’t want our other workers on the team to feel awkward around us.

“What…What do you mean by that?” I gasped in the quiet of our B+B room. “At the end of the month you are going to be transferred to the office in Seattle. You will be going home,” she told me.

“I want you to know that you have been the brightest and most remarkable person I had the pleasure of training. The state of Washington will be fortunate to have you working their Cyber Crime Unit,” she said softly.

“So, this is it for us?” I asked forlornly. “No Jack, I will always love you. I will stay in contact. We will always be friends,” she answered.

Angel spent every night for the rest of the month sleeping in my room with me. Our coworkers just all looked the other way. Angel drove me to the airport in Richmond that Sunday. There were tears in her eyes as we said goodbye.

I hugged Angel as if it would be the last time I’d ever see her. But I refused to cry. “I love you Angel. I will always love you,” I told her as we parted. I looked back one last time as I entered the secured area. Angel was sobbing.

It was 9am when I left Richmond. With the 3 hour difference in time zones, I arrived in SeaTac at 11am even though it was a 5 hour flight. There was a man in a black suit and white shirt waiting for me with a sign in his hands. “Welcome Agent Raylar.”

The man identified himself as Jeff Holmes my handler.

He drove past the FBI Federal building located between 2nd and 3rd ave in Downtown Seattle so I would know where the building is in relation to the Condo he took me to a block from the waterfront of Elliott Bay.

With my condo on the 12th floor, I will have a great view of the Bay.

I was surprised when he handed me the keys to the Cream colored Chrysler 300 when we got out of the vehicle in the Condo’s parking garage. After he shook my hand, he told me to take a week off to refamiliarize myself with Seattle.

I was amazed when I saw inside the condo. Fully furnished with modern furniture, a 60-inch TV screen mounted on the wall and a fully updated and encrypted FBI computer system in the den. Wow!
