Epilogue

Images of their faces haunted my sleep. Their last moments were burned into my mind. Father as his body struggled beneath the water. Mother when that blade sliced open her throat. There was so much blood I was still drowning in it. But there was one face that devastated me. My brother’s.

Adler had watched as my parents were killed, people he claimed to love. He had watched, having the power to save them. And he had done nothing. He had let them die. Cruelly. Without mercy. The very thought stoked the broken embers within my soul and roused the hidden flare inside me. He would pay.

I woke up with a gasp, to find myself in a foreign land, alone again. I was surrounded by dragons, draconis, as they called themselves here, yet I was alone.

I had learned much over the last year. There were two clans. De Vita and the Circulus. They had limited understanding of magic. Everything they knew about it was from what I had told them. I suspected they all could make it, but their world was primitive. They had not discovered the power that laid within themselves. That was something I would use to my advantage.

I had not forgotten my vow, the promise I had made myself. I would get my revenge on Adler.

It was time to cash in a debt.

War was coming.

My war.
