Chapter Three #3
Mr. Chance clearly understood her thoughts, even if her words were not fully coherent. Without a word, he had risen from the chair and stepped around her desk, grabbing her chair by the arms and moving it, without any apparent difficulty, ninety degrees.
To face him.
“Mr. Chance,” Phylis managed, her core throbbing as she looked up at him.
Looked down at him. Mr. Chance had now fallen to his knees, and there was a hungry sort of look on his face Phylis only saw on her crew when Cook had managed to source the better ingredients.
“Say my name when you climax,” he said in a rough, low voice as his fingers reached for the hem of her skirts. “Promise me, Captain Seaton.”
Oh, dear God, this was more than she could endure—and yet there was something so intoxicating about the man. Perhaps it wasn’t him, Mr. Chance, but the fact that no man had given her an order in years.
Something sparked, hot and sharp, across her skin as Mr. Chance’s fingers brushed her calves.
“I’m waiting for that promise,” he murmured, not letting his gaze leave hers.
Phylis swallowed. “I—I promise to say your name if you make me climax.”
She should not have issued it as a challenge. Mr. Chance’s face transformed into that full of delight. “We are agreed.”
And then his head disappeared.
Phylis gasped, clasping the arms of her chair as the sudden shock of intimacy overwhelmed her. What on earth did she think she was doing? She had paperwork to sort and contracts to duplicate and cargo runs to plan and—
And Mr. Chance’s tongue darted out and licked her secret place.
“Oh, God.” Phylis could not help but moan, tilting back in her chair and wondering what on earth she had done to deserve this day, good and bad.
It shouldn’t have been possible for a man’s tongue to make her feel so good. And it wasn’t just licking delicately. There was a slow determination about it, as though Mr. Chance were slowly building a rhythm.
Phylis’s eyes closed as her thighs quivered with the pleasure that roared through her body as Mr. Chance’s tongue slipped deep inside her.
“Oh, God,” she moaned. “Oh—oh, what the hell do you think you’re doing?”
The question was sharp, and it was full of disappointment. That was because Mr. Chance had removed both tongue and head from under her skirts, and had reappeared with an unhappy expression.
“You promised me you’d cry my name, not God’s,” he said rakishly, licking his lips in a way that made Phylis quiver.
She was not, however, going to give in so easily. “So I did. If I climax.”
Mr. Chance grinned. “You are a worthy opponent, Captain Seaton.”
She didn’t feel like an opponent as he ducked under her skirts and began kissing her down there again, but that didn’t matter because all she could feel was sparking elation throughout her body.
Oh, this was too much—too much when Mr. Chance’s hands grasped her knees and pushed them apart so he could sink his tongue deeper, too much when he pressed a feathery-then-harder kiss against her, too much when his tongue twisted and swirled—
“Oh, God,” Phylis whimpered as the heat within her grew with the raking of his tongue over her nub and a jolt of ecstasy passed through her.
Just the one, but she knew where that led, and apparently, so did he. Merciless now with tongue and lips, it was all Phylis could do to hang on to the chair as the man licked and laved and sucked, eating from her as though he had never eaten such sweetness.
The pressure was building, building, and just as Phylis was worried that the man wouldn’t be able to get her over the edge, his tongue slowly swirled around her aching nub and Phylis—
“Oh, Michael—Michael, yes, yes!”
It was not a scream, she told herself later, although it definitely was.
It was more a coming apart as her whole body roared with achingly sweet pleasure, far greater and deeper and all-encompassing than anything she had found with her hand, and Phylis could not help but cry his name repeatedly as the man she had met less than an hour ago utterly destroyed her.
When he finally emerged from her skirts, licking his lips again in that fashion that made Phylis want to drag his head back under for a second go, Mr. Chance grinned. “Thank you.”
“‘Thank’…me?” Phylis whispered, hardly able to draw breath.
“Yes, it’s been a long time since I’ve done that and I do adore hearing my name called upon a peak,” Mr. Chance said brightly, standing up and brushing himself down. “And now I shall leave you.”
“‘Leave’ me?” It was not that I want him to stay, Phylis told herself desperately. It was just that she couldn’t imagine him leaving. “‘Leave’?”
“As I said, we’ll never see each other again,” said Mr. Chance with a shrug. “It was a pleasure doing business with you.”
And with that, he strode across the room and out of her office, closing the door smartly behind her.
Phylis lay back on her chair panting, wondering how she was ever going to stand again. That the man could just—just do that, then walk out, never to see her again!
It was ridiculous! It was outlandish! It was—
A slow smile crept across Phylis’s face as she considered the possibility.
Yes. Yes, his casual observation was…not quite true.
