IVY
The rooftop garden was breathtaking—a carefully designed oasis fifteen stories above the city streets.
Tropical plants created secluded nooks and pathways, while strategically placed seating areas offered stunning views.
Glass walls surrounded the perimeter, creating the illusion of openness while providing protection from the wind.
And there, standing at the edge looking out over the city, was Ethan.
He turned at the sound of the door, and my breath caught. He was even more imposing in person than I remembered from our brief café meeting—tall and broad-shouldered in a perfectly tailored charcoal suit, his dark hair slightly tousled as if he'd run his hand through it.
"You came," he said simply, his voice deeper than I remembered.
"I did." I remained by the door, suddenly uncertain.
"Second thoughts?" he asked, making no move toward me.
"About a dozen of them. Per minute."
That earned me a smile—small, but genuine. "Yet here you are."
"Here I am." I took a tentative step forward. "This place is beautiful."
"It serves a purpose." He gestured toward the surrounding buildings, some with lights still on despite the hour. "Private, but not entirely. Just as you requested."
The reminder of why we were here—of what we were planning to do—sent a fresh wave of heat through me. This wasn't a romantic date. This was a deliberately arranged encounter designed to fulfill very specific fantasies.
"Would you like a drink?" he asked, indicating a bottle of champagne chilling in an ice bucket beside one of the seating areas.
"Yes. Please."
I followed him to the seating area, taking in the details—plush outdoor furniture arranged around a low table, soft lighting from lanterns placed among the plants, the distant hum of traffic far below.
It was intimate, secluded, yet with the ever-present awareness that we weren't entirely alone—that someone in one of those lit windows could, theoretically, see us if they looked closely enough.
The thought sent a thrill through me that was equal parts anxiety and arousal.
Ethan poured two glasses of champagne, handing one to me. Our fingers brushed in the exchange, and even that small contact sent a jolt through my system.
"To honesty," he said, raising his glass. "And to finally meeting properly."
I took a sip, the bubbles sharp on my tongue. "I wouldn't exactly call this 'properly.' Most first dates don't start with the explicit understanding that sex is on the agenda."
"This isn't a date," he corrected, his tone matter-of-fact rather than unkind. "As we established."
"Right." I took another, longer sip. "Just sex. No strings."
"Just pleasure," he amended. "And the fulfillment of fantasies you've kept hidden for too long. There's a difference."
There was something almost hypnotic about the way he spoke—confident but not arrogant, direct without being crude. I found myself relaxing slightly despite the surreal situation.
"So how does this work?" I asked, gesturing vaguely between us. "Do we just... get to it? Or is there a protocol for this sort of thing?"
The corner of his mouth twitched. "We proceed at whatever pace makes you comfortable. Despite the unconventional nature of our arrangement, I'm not an animal, Ivy."
The way he said my name—with a slight emphasis on the first syllable—made me shiver.
"Though I'll admit," he continued, setting his glass down and taking a step toward me, "I've been thinking about touching you since I first read your messages. About discovering if the reality matches the fantasy."
My pulse quickened as he moved closer, close enough that I could smell his cologne—something woodsy and expensive.
"And does it?" I managed, proud that my voice remained steady. "Match the fantasy?"
"I don't know yet." His gaze traveled slowly from my face down the length of my body, then back up again. "But I intend to find out."
He took my glass, setting it beside his on the table. Then he was standing directly in front of me, not touching, just looking. I resisted the urge to fidget under his scrutiny.
"Tell me again," he said softly, "what appeals to you about public spaces. About the risk of being seen."
Heat crept up my neck at being asked to articulate my fantasy so directly, with no screen to hide behind. "I—I told you already."
"You did. But I want to hear it in person. I want to watch your face as you say the words."
This was the test. To see if I was truly willing to embrace this side of myself, to own my desires without the safety of anonymity.
"I like the contrast," I said finally, my voice barely above a whisper. "Being outwardly composed while falling apart inside." I swallowed hard, forcing myself to maintain eye contact. "I like the idea of someone seeing beneath the careful surface to the person I really am."
"And who is that person, Ivy?" His voice had dropped lower, matching my quiet tone. "Who are you beneath the quiet librarian exterior?"
"Someone who wants more than I let myself have. Someone who thinks about being pushed past my limits. Someone who fantasizes about losing control in a way I never allow myself to in real life."
The admission hung between us, raw and honest. Ethan's eyes darkened, and I felt a visceral response to the hunger I saw there.
"Thank you for your honesty," he said, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. The simple touch sent electricity down my spine. "Now let me be equally honest."
His hand lingered, fingers trailing down to the sensitive spot where my neck met my shoulder.
"I'm going to take my time with you tonight.
I'm going to touch you in ways that make you forget where we are.
I'm going to push you to the edge and keep you there until you're desperate.
And I'm going to do it all right here, where anyone looking out their window might see exactly what's happening to you. "
My breath caught, my body responding instinctively to his words, to the barely restrained promise in his voice.
"The question is," he continued, his thumb now tracing my collarbone, "are you ready for that, Ivy? Are you ready to let go of the careful control you maintain everywhere else in your life?"
It was my last chance to back out, to retreat to the safety of my organized, predictable existence. To remain the Ivy Ramirez everyone knew—competent, reserved, unremarkable.
Instead, I leaned into his touch, my decision made. "Yes."
That single word changed everything. Ethan's expression shifted, something primal flashing in his eyes before he reined it in. His hand moved from my collarbone to cup my face, his touch firm but not rough.
"Remember," he said, his thumb brushing my lower lip, "you can stop this at any time. Just say the word."
Then he was kissing me, and coherent thought became impossible.
His mouth claimed mine with the same confidence he'd displayed in our texts—commanding but not punishing, taking control. I responded immediately, my body recognizing what my mind had suspected: we fit together perfectly.
His hands slid down to my waist, pulling me closer as the kiss deepened. My arms wound around his neck, fingers threading through his hair. I'd expected urgency, perhaps even roughness, but Ethan kissed me with deliberate thoroughness, as if memorizing my responses.
When we finally broke apart, I was breathless, my lipstick smudged, my carefully constructed composure already beginning to fray.
"Come here," he said, leading me to one of the seating areas—a wide, cushioned bench positioned to offer both a view of the city and potential visibility from neighboring buildings.
He sat, guiding me to stand between his knees, looking up at me with an expression that made me feel both powerful and vulnerable.
"Turn around," he instructed, his voice low. "Face the city."
I obeyed, my pulse racing as I turned my back to him.
From this position, I could see the lights of the neighboring buildings, could make out silhouettes moving behind windows.
Could anyone see me? Were they watching, curious about the woman standing in the rooftop garden while a man sat behind her?
The thought sent a thrill through me that was equal parts anxiety and arousal.
Ethan's hands settled on my hips, warm and steady through the thin fabric of my dress.
"Beautiful view, isn't it?"
"Yes," I agreed, not entirely sure if he meant the city or something else.
"Do you think anyone's watching us right now?" His hands began to move, stroking up my sides, then down again, each pass coming closer to where my breasts ached for his touch.
"Maybe," I breathed, the possibility becoming more real, more exciting, with each passing moment.
"And how does that make you feel?" His lips brushed the nape of my neck, the sensation making me shiver. "Knowing that someone might see what I'm about to do to you?"
"Nervous," I admitted. "And... turned on."
"Honesty becomes you." His hands finally moved higher, brushing the sides of my breasts, teasing but not satisfying. "I'm going to reward that honesty now."
