Chapter 30
“I can’t believe what your siblings did for us.” Tillman curled a piece of Phoebe’s hair around his finger, loving the silky feel of it over his skin and on his chest.
She snuggled closer, her arm around his waist, her legs tangled up with his. “I can. They’re the best, and I can count on them for anything.”
He thought that they could count on her for anything as well and probably had over the course of the last decade and a half since their parents had been killed. But what a way to reward Phoebe’s faithfulness in giving up any life she might have made on her own as she took care of her younger siblings, homeschooling them, raising them, and devoting her life to making sure they had a stable home and family.
“You deserve that...and so much more.” He turned his head and kissed her temple, wondering what it would be like to be married to her for decades and always knowing that God had given him far more in his wife than he ever deserved.
“I don’t deserve anything but hell,” she said. “And yet, God gave me you. I am the most blessed woman in the world.”
She could think that if she wanted to. He knew it wasn’t true. But it made him feel like a million bucks to think that’s what she thought.
God had taken something he thought he wanted more than anything away from him, and He’d filled his life up to overflowing. He couldn’t imagine having more. But then the Clybornes had paid off Erin’s hospital bill, and they’d given them even more so they could build or buy a house.
Phoebe wanted to build. A house and a family. She had wanted to get started on the family right away. Who was he to tell her no?
He grinned. He would have fun making a family, and he’d grow and become better with Phoebe beside him as they raised them together.
“Tillman?” she whispered, her breath flowing over his skin and making him shiver in the very best way.
“Hmm?” he said, his fingers running down her arm and over the soft skin of her waist.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too, sweetheart.” His lips found hers, and he kissed her for real, wanting to show her just how much.
