The look of torment on Sorren’s face breaks my heart.

His normally combed back hair sticks out in every direction.

The frenetic energy in the air draws me to him.

I haven’t stopped thinking about our kiss last night.

I pouted when he ended it before it became something more, but it didn’t stop me from wanting to drag him into my bed when he turned off the TV for the night.

Standing in the open doorway, unable to wait a second longer, I kiss him.

Sorren is a force of nature, irresistible.

Why try? I might as well tell the tide to defy the moon.

Sorren’s hands cling to my back, like I could float away if he loosened his grip for even a second.

His lips trail down my throat and over to my earlobe.

His breath tickles my skin, setting every tiny hair on end.

His scorching hands reach under my ass and lift me up with ease.

I wrap my legs around his waist and anchor myself to him.

Together we stumble toward the couch, only breaking the kiss when he bangs his shin on the coffee table.

Through our giggles, he sets me on the couch and kneels between my legs.

I pull my sweater over my head and toss it on the floor. I picked out my favorite bra this morning hoping the day would lead us here. Not the most comfortable thing to wear for a day at work, but it pushes up my tits and makes me feel incredibly sexy.

“You’ve put me under a spell, haven’t you?” Sorren unbuttons his cuffs and rolls up each sleeve to his forearms, like he’s about to get to work. Slowly, he takes off his glasses and sets them on the end table.

My panties are soaked at the sight of him.

The tension in the room builds with every second he holds me in suspense. My body clenches around nothing and I feel empty. Desperate for him to touch me again.

“You still want me?” he asks, reaching for the top button of my jeans.

“So fucking badly.” I pull him in for another kiss, anything to show him just how much I do.

He grabs my hair, just like last night, and tilts my face up to his. “What do you want, witch?” he whispers in my ear.

“Everything,” I rasp, throat bared, my voice barely recognizable.

“What do you want first?” he purrs, unzipping my pants.

“Hands, fingers, mouth.” He yanks down my jeans with one harsh movement, dragging me off the edge of the couch. The cold air hits my skin and a shiver travels up my spine.

Sorren snaps his fingers and flames blaze in the fireplace. His hands run up the center of my satin black panties.

He sucks air between his teeth. “Did you wear these for me?”

“For you to take them off.”

“No, no, these need to stay on.”

He pushes the fabric to the side and rubs his fingers through the slick gathering there. I whimper at the reverent touch, needing more.

The feeling of gathering magick swirls in my belly, the charge right before something happens. Every light in my house flickers.

Sorren laughs a dark, sexy laugh and pushes his finger tip to my sensitive clit. My back arches toward him and my legs open for more.

His eyes lock on mine as he pushes his middle two fingers inside me. A shaky breath slips out of him, and a heady power amplifies inside me.

I grab his bare forearm and hold him to me. His hand moves at an excruciatingly slow and methodical pace, driving me to the brink of insanity. How can he have any control right now when I am unraveling like this?

“Don’t stop. Don’t you dare stop,” I plead.

His palm rubs against my clit while his fingers push into me again and again. His free hand goes around my throat, his thumb tilting up my jaw. “I want to feel you come on my fingers.”

His hand moves faster and faster as the lights blaze brighter. My legs shake and I come with a gasp, the lights popping before everything goes dark. The only remaining light comes from the mid-afternoon sun hiding behind dark gray clouds.

“That was the hottest fucking thing I have ever seen.” He pulls his fingers out and returns my underwear to the proper position. He kisses my lower belly, moving up between my breasts, up my neck, over my chin, until he finally worships my lips.

Does this make him my demon boyfriend?

“Do you think I’ll have to replace all the lightbulbs every time I give you an orgasm?” Sorren hugs me from behind. I wiggle my ass a tiny bit, enough to elicit a groan from him.

“I think we should see what happens when I give you an orgasm, you know, for research.”

He spins me around in his arms and plants a kiss on my lips. “Not until every single protection spell you know has been cast. I’m not taking any chances with the Mephisto Board.”

Sorren lets me go, grabs a stack of witchcraft books, and sinks into the couch. He flips through the top book, putting sticky-notes on all the pages that reference protection. His face turns serious and focused as he searches for anything we could use.

Riley is probably worried out of her mind from how fast I left her at the café. The morning rush was mostly over, but I still felt bad for taking off and leaving her with all the remaining work and no explanation. I grab my phone and shoot off a text.

Hey Girlie. Just checking in. Everything okay over there?

Riley

WTF. You ran out of here like a bat out of Hell. Speaking of Hell, how is the resident demon?

Sorren is worried the other demons are going to get pissed that I summoned him

Riley

Pissing off demons sounds bad

It is. He’s making me cast some protection spells

Riley

Good idea

Can you close up on your own? Or should I come back?

Riley

I’m good here. Enjoy your demon boyfriend. Stay safe

…

I’m about to deny it, but my fingers freeze over the screen.

Sorren and I haven’t talked about what is happening between us.

Most people would recommend against jumping from one relationship right into the next, but I like him.

He’s funny and caring, kisses like a god, and is extremely talented with his fingers.

Riley

Glad to see you aren’t denying it anymore. Good for you

Byeeee

I take my spot on the couch next to Sorren and grab one of the books and a stack of sticky-notes.

“What about this one?” Sorren asks, pointing to a page about protection runes.

“That is called a witch’s knot. It’s great for protection.”

“I’ve seen it before, it’s carved into the trim on your front and back doors,” he boasts. For a Prince of Hell, he could have made a decent witch.

“Yep, they’ve been there for decades. My great-grandmother carved them into the house when my grandmother moved in.”

“They’re pretty.” He traces his finger over the interlocking circles on the page.

“The only places I could be vulnerable are out and about—which I’m not doing much of these days. I’m really not worried. Plus, if I get dragged down to Hell, couldn’t my big scary demon boyfriend come save me?”

Sorren’s eyebrow quirks up, followed by a giant smile.

“Too soon?” I ask, although I already know the answer.

“You tell me. If you want to take it slow and need time to get over what’s-his-name, I understand,” he says, snapping the book shut.

“You know what his name is. I don’t need time. The breakup should have happened a long time ago, to be honest.”

Maybe it makes me a bad person to move on so quickly, but I can’t bring myself to care. What is an acceptable amount of time to wait? Hopefully Grant is out there meeting people and both of us are moving on.

Sorren scribbles something on a Post-It and sticks it to my forehead.

I peel it off and turn it over.

In perfect handwriting, one underlined word.

Mine

Happiness blooms so fiercely it feels like magick, filling every inch of my chest. I tuck the note safely in my pocket, knowing I’ll never throw it away.

He’s so fucking sweet.

“If you are going to distract me, then you have to go work in the kitchen,” Sorren says, going back to his annotations.

“I’ll be good, I promise.”

“Did you know demons have a sixth sense for detecting lies?” He calls my bluff.

“Really?”

“No, but you are so obvious. It’s written all over your face.” He leans over and kisses the tip of my nose. “Get to work, or I might insist you stay here at home with me until we get this all straightened out.”

I pretend to pout and go back to my book.

The idea of being shacked up with Sorren for a while longer wouldn’t sound half bad if it weren’t for my responsibilities and growing issues with the coven. Stolen time with him feels like a luxury I can't quite afford, but I'd take more of it in a heartbeat.

Sorren opens his book wider and tilts it toward me. “What’s this?” He shows me a rune.

“That is a daisy wheel. One of the most ancient protection runes out there. In the Bronze Age people would carve them into pottery. Then, Christianity got their hands on it and carved it into their churches and incorporated the rune in their cathedrals. My grandmother used to wear one around her neck. Actually, I still have it!” I jump up from the couch and climb the stairs. It’s got to be in a box in the attic.

“Do you think it’s strong enough to keep them away?” Sorren follows close behind me.

“I think it’s our best shot.” The attic is just as dusty as it was more than a week ago when Riley and I were up here getting boxes down for Mabon.

It’s crazy how much has changed in the past few days.

One minute life is all laid out before you, then boom—you accidentally snatch a demon and everything gets flipped upside down.

Even though there have been multiple attempts at organizing the attic throughout the years, it’s still a mess up here. Most things are in boxes, but there is no rhyme or reason for what is where. A family heirloom could be right next to discarded chapstick.

“You start over there, I’ll start here,” I tell Sorren, pointing him to the opposite end of the attic.

He sneezes into his sleeve. “What exactly am I looking for? Is it big? Small? Shiny?” He opens the first box.

“It’s a small iron disc on a green velvet ribbon. Wait, let me try something.”
