Chapter 20
Saturday June 15, 2019
As I met my friends in Jax’s café it was hard to believe Leo was now six weeks old already.
“It’s still going fast,” I said to Polly.
“Life does though, doesn’t it?” she replied. “Are you ready to go back to work on Monday?”
“No,” I stated. It was partly true. I’d had six weeks of maternity leave, rather than the original four I’d intended as Samara’s baby daughter had arrived late and she’d continued to work up until the last available moment. Her husband had dragged her out of the office and into a waiting ambulance where they’d assessed she was already 5cm dilated. Samara had complained that Max had been telling her some great gossip and she’d missed the end of the story.
By the time Max had come to visit—bearing yet another giant unicorn—Sam couldn’t have cared less about his gossip, given she was now completely and utterly besotted with Romilly-Rose.
Today, we had a new woman among the gang too: Zara. Zara who was now Fae and head over heels in love with Boone. I wasn’t sure what had surprised me more: the fact Boone had found his match, or that he was now the ruler of the Withernsea Dell. Just showed nothing was impossible.
“Don’t forget Brishon is asking to see you next week, about you setting him up,” Polly reminded me.
What was that I’d said about nothing being impossible?
Kim clapped her hands together to get everyone’s attention. “Let’s welcome the new members of the Withernsea babies’ group,” she said, though there was no such group in any official capacity. “Leo Landry and Romilly-Rose Leighton.”
Everyone smiled except Jess, who took a deep breath. My eyes caught hers and she gave me a nervous shrug. Looked like there might be one more joining us in the coming months. I’d do all I could to support her through things.
“To Leo and Romilly,” everyone cheered, and we toasted the new arrivals with the usual coffee and chocolate doughnuts.
