Chapter Seventeen
“Are you sure about this?”
I turned around to look at the back of the two-piece lacy blue lingerie Nyx picked out for me.
“Yes. You have a great figure. Blue looks great on you. And Tor will absolutely love the lace. You look like a naughty princess.”
That I did. We’d swept my curls half up, while the rest fell over my chest. Like some love goddess.
I’d worn lingerie for myself many times but never for the lovers I’d taken.
“What if he turns me down?”
Nyx stopped lighting candles and stared at me with an arched brow. Yeah. It was a dumb question.
“It’s been what... a week or so since you turned him down. I’ve seen the way he looks at you. It’s time to see what he’s made of and if you wanna be attached to him forever.”
I rolled my eyes and she tsked me.
“You should always sleep with a male before tying yourself to him. What if he’s a terrible lay? Or selfish? What if you aren’t compatible and truly want different things?”
My head tuned back to face the full-length mirror.
What if…
What if those were true?
“You’re right. We’re all adults. I’ve had sex before. This is my future husband. Time to see what we are made of. So, remind me of the plan again.”
I breathed in deeply. The underwire of the Basque dug into my ribs.
Nyx stood behind me, looking my reflection over with a satisfied nod. Not because she was attracted to me, but being the fashionista she is, she knew she picked the right combo to make me look hot and drive Tor wild.
“I’m going to find Tor and tell him you wanted to see him to talk. Then you’ll answer the door looking like this and I’m sure he’ll take it from there.”
Right, right. Sounds easy enough.
“And if at any point you change your mind and you don’t want to sleep with him.
Then end it, and if he’s an asshole and doesn’t listen, I trust you’ll kick his ass.
We’ll throw him out of the kingdom together.
” She strode over to the door, pausing with her fingers on the handle.
“Hopefully a mating bond will settle, and you get all the orgasms you want.” She laughed and I saw her soft smile in the reflection.
“I really am rooting for you, Sapphira.”
“Me too,” I said as she left, still staring at myself.
My chest tightened, and the fluttering in my stomach had me sitting on the bed.
Maybe I could lie down and tell him to come in when he knocks. He’d see me like this and come ravage me.
I shot to my feet. No, that’s not the plan. I’m supposed to answer the door. Nervousness swirled in my tummy and I started pacing.
No. No pacing.
A loud knock banged on my door.
A rush of breath flowed out of me and my heart raced behind my sternum.
“I’ve got this.”
Plastering a sensual smirk to my lips, I gripped the handle and opened the door to my fate.
“I’m so glad—” The words died in my throat as strong hands gripped my waist and spun me around. The door closed, and I was pushed against it, cheek against the wood with Rune towering behind me.
His fingers dug into my flesh. My mouth opened to tell him to let go, to leave, but nothing came out.
Soft puffs of breath travelled over the skin of my shoulder. A nose dragged along the edges of my neck.
Oh, dear Heart Tree and all other magical deities of this universe.
Rune breathed me in and my body arched, needing to give him more. A low growl emitted from his chest, and I pressed into him further.
I wasn’t supposed to react like this.
“What are you doing here?” I breathed against the door, my nails digging into the wood.
“I came to say goodbye.” His low voice against my skin sent a shiver over me like an erotic ripple effect.
Wait... goodbye?
I spun around, caged between his body and the door.
“You’re leaving?” I demanded, the disappointment written all over my face.
The icy depths in his eyes watching me flared. He growled, closing the so few inches between us.
That growl vibrated across my chest and shot down to my core.
I’d never been this turned on in my life.
His head lowered as he sniffed me from the top of my head, to the side of my jaw, and then to my collarbone. A predator deciding if I’m prey or another predator.
“Full moon.” His stubble scratched against my neck as he paused over my thumping artery.
“Not permanently then.” I moaned as my hands snuck between us to push him away. Somewhere in the back of my mind, a smarter voice tried to remind me of something important.
Then it all happened so fast. My fingers gripped the tunic covering Rune’s broad chest, and we were moving. I wasn’t sure if he carried me to the bed or I moved with a frenzied Fae speed alongside him.
In a second, I was squished into the mattress beneath his hard body, legs spread for him to press against my sex.
“Never.” He groaned against my neck. The first press of his lips against me had my hands gripping his black hair.
He growled, his hips flexing into me in response, his straining length harshly pressed where I needed him.
I wanted to sob.
I wanted to press my lips to his.
“Rune.” I moaned his name. A plea for those lips at my neck, that warrior’s body to conquer me. A feral fight to give and take pleasure from one another.
“My moon.” He groaned with a hand snaking to my thigh, lifting it around his waist as he moved in rhythm, grinding over me.
I yanked his head back from my flesh, he smirked. He liked my roughness, my warrior’s spirit, and wanted to burn in my fire.
Our lips parted, as I leaned in, gaze set on his pink lips.
Then a knock on the door echoed around the room.
