She’s scared. That’s the worst part of all this.

The most important job of my life is to tell her everything’s going to be okay, to be there for her, to protect her, and I can’t do it.

Because any day now Lou is going to make contact with her.

I don’t know when. I don’t know how. But as soon as it happens, she’ll know.

It’s not a dead end. It’s a cliff she doesn’t know she’s headed toward, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.
