Ink and Betsy
“Ican’t believe the Fox had a customized firework made that exploded into an image of a fox’s face,” Betsy said as she entered their bedroom later that night.
“You can’t?” Ink asked.
“Actually, you’re right. I totally can. We should have expected that, just like we should have expected that Baron and Royal would get their hands on some extra fireworks.” She sat on the side of the bed, and Ink came toward her. He took off her sweater and T-shirt, then her bra.
A tingle of arousal ran through her even though she was certain that she was way too tired to do anything
“Yeah, we should have expected that,” Ink said, shaking his head. “Can’t believe they hid them in the woods like they thought we wouldn’t let them set them off.”
“Would you have let them set them off?” she asked.
“They got them on the black market, so no,” he told her.
Ink had lectured the boys for a good half an hour while she put Zippy to bed. It had taken a while for the little girl to drift off to sleep. She’d been so full of beans after that display, especially with the Fox’s surprise fireworks at the end.
Zippy hadn’t seemed that surprised about the boys setting off their own fireworks. Which made her wonder if she’d known about this. Betsy had thought about asking her, but then she decided that maybe she was better off not knowing.
Baron and Royal hadn’t really seemed repentant. She was just grateful that they hadn’t attempted to make their own fireworks and set fire to the trees or the house.
With Baron and Royal, you never knew what they were going to come up with and Baron seemed to have a penchant for blowing things up.
Ink stood and gently pressed her back on the bed so he could take off her pants.
“Poor Brown Eyes. You’re really tired, aren’t you?” he said sympathetically as she yawned. “It was a big day for a Little girl.”
She nodded. It really had been.
“Baron and Royal said they’re going to take Zippy out to the movies for a few hours tomorrow so you and I can spend some time together. Alone.”
“That sounds like a great idea.” She could really use some time just with him. “Do you think everybody had a great time?”
He helped her into her nightgown and then tucked her into bed. Sitting next to her, he leaned over to kiss her lightly.
“I think they all had the best time. This has been the best Fourth of July so far.”
It certainly had.
