A Heart of Gold
~ C H A P T E R 1 ~
Holy sweet mother of Jesus this was not the way Evangeline or Eva wanted to start her Monday morning.
There was a strong rain storm and one of the few things she dislikes and will go the extent of saying she hates is rain.
Nothing gets accomplished in this weather, there are more accidents and she bound to fall sick.
Eva was looking out her big bedroom window, sighing to herself as she figured she had to walk to campus in this weather.
She had successfully completed her first year of Engineering and now she was on her way to her main courses - A major in Computer Science and a minor in Data science.
If you'd look at her you would think she was a literary major but nope, she was most definitely what you'd call a geek or nerd but without the stereotypes people put.
Eva has always been a morning person ever since her ripe age of 16, she would wake up to take courses before school started and hence that stuck with her.
Getting her morning routine started, she made her bed which was facing the window.
Usually the sun would hit the bedding creating a lovely warmth, but not today.
Today it was glooming and dark. Not that Eva had a problem with dark colors as such, she preferred them.
She was never a bright color clothing wise person at least. Her aesthetic was mostly browns, neutrals, nudes and hints of orange.
She was for sure a Fall or Autumn type of girl.
Packing her stuff for classes, she started getting ready.
She's not exactly a tall girl - 5'2 if to be more specific.
She got her mother's height in this case and her father's hair and eye color of dark brown.
She was a short but curvy girl, having a larger chest and wider hips again like her mother made her clothing choices a bit more restrictive or so she feels.
She was never the type to wear skirts or shorts.
She preferred wearing high waisted jeans with hoodies, sweater, sweatshirts or Sundresses and t-shirts with jeans or track pants.
She believes strongly in being comfortable over anything.
She is usually confident in her skin but some times she'd hope to look like her elder sister Bella - tall and slender but alas, she isn't. She has more on her to love.
During her first year of Engineering she stayed in the dorms but then she picked up a job at the on-campus Library where she runs the software to make sure all the books are up to date and that there are no issues.
It's not what you'd expect a college student to take as a job, but that's Evangeline for you - different.
Now that she makes some money on the side, she moved into a 3 bedroom apartment with 2 of her friends, it's a 5 minutes walk to campus so it's perfect.
"Eva! Your coffee is on the kitchen counter, I'm going to hit the shower now" her roommate and resident mother hen Parker shouted from the kitchen.
"Thank you thank you Park! I'll keep breakfast ready.
" Eva replied walking out of her room, tying her hair in a messy bun since she didn't have time to wash it.
She was brilliant in the kitchen, cooking all types of cuisines and baking all types of sweets.
It was something she and her mother did throughout her childhood.
She started making pancakes ad waffles for her roommates since both have such strong feelings about them, cue the eye roll.
They don't realize that both have the same batter but who am I to burst their bubble.
Eva has a bit of both so she isn't extremely picky.
"Morning Eva buttons! Oo don't you look cute today.
" Her roommate, childhood friend and overall bubbly party girl Sandra says to her coming into the kitchen.
Her blonde hair flawlessly done and even her makeup.
Sandra was what you'd say is a runway model type of beauty.
Blonde hair and green eyes with her 5'8 height.
True to her beauty Sandra was studying Fashion design, her designs were breath-taking and ranged all type of shapes and sizes.
Rolling her eyes and internally cringing that that nickname Eva replies " Morning Sand, and this is what I wear every rainy day. If anyone looks beautiful it's you my friend."
"Aww you are such a sweet button Eva. And no you look sexy!" Sandra winks playfully at her. "Oh yes yes your waffles! Heaven on a plate" Sandra almost moans.
"Park come down soon your pancakes will get cold and we got to head off to campus soon!" Eva shouts or more like whisper yells since she generally has a quiet voice - a sweet voice.
"Coming coming!" Parker replies running down the hall braiding her lovely red hair. Parker has the most unique features since she's actually from Ireland. Red hair and green eyes with her 5'9 height. Along with Eva, Parker was studying Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer science.
"Okay so the news on campus is that to start off the semester right, the sport teams are throwing a massive party today evening" hitting her forehead and clicking her fingers to remember "I think around 8-ish, we have to go!" Sandra squeals almost falling off the bar stool.
"I'm down but it'll be late for me since I have lab, Sand." Parker says devouring the pancakes. "Oh god Eva buttons these are deadly."
Eva blushes at the comment, she is never good at receiving compliments.
"Oh it's nothing, and um - I think I'll let you know Sand if I can make it okay?
" Eva was never a party person. And both the girls knew that very well, they never forced her.
The 3 of them get along or more like vibe amazing with each other.
"No problemo buttons, you text me if you can make it!" Sandra chirps wearing her heels.
And with that the three of them were off to their classes.
