Chapter 20 #2
They took their sweet time, letting each other know when they were close so they could pull back and focus on kissing until the urgency passed.
It was the best kind of edging imaginable, and with every new touch, kiss, and suck, Lee felt more and more like he’d fallen into one of his own romance stories.
“I can’t wait anymore,” Drew panted once they were both half out of their minds with lust. “I need you.”
“Fuck, yes,” Lee said, letting out a heavy breath. “Take me.”
The fire in Drew’s eyes alone might have been enough to send Lee over the edge.
The man was on a mission to learn how to be the best lover he could be, and Lee was more than happy to help him.
He guided Drew through everything he needed to do to position himself right while Lee was on his back and to give them both the most pleasure when he finally pushed inside him.
“God, yes,” Lee groaned, gripping Drew’s arms and moving his body so Drew could nail his prostate as he thrust. “Like that. Fuck! I love you!”
He was sure Drew would have said it in return if he wasn’t so far gone with pleasure. They really did work well together, and this was only the beginning. Things would only get better as they learned each other’s bodies and minds.
All thought vanished from Lee’s mind as his orgasm started.
It wasn’t subtle either. It blasted into him as jets of cum shot up over his belly and pleasure made him forget his own name.
Drew grunted with amazement, and his thrusts turned frantic for a few seconds before he cried out and started to slow.
It was all so perfect, and when Drew collapsed to his side, quickly ditched the condom, then rolled back, Lee couldn’t wipe the smile from his face. He was in love, and if the Universe was on his side, he was about to get his happily ever after.
They fell asleep for a while, wrapped in each other. Lee didn’t care that they were sweaty and messy. They needed that moment of sated peace together. That, even more than the sex, was what would bond them and support them through whatever came next.
And a lot of stuff came next.
“Well, the video has been posted,” Drew said, scrolling through his phone about an hour later, after they’d got up, showered, and Lee had thrown his sheets into the washer.
Lee came over to where Drew sat in the twilight of the garden, the light from his phone making it look like he had stars in his eyes. “Oh yeah? How’s the reaction?”
Drew scrolled in silence for a few more seconds before saying, “About what you’d expect.”
Lee hummed, then took a seat squished by Drew’s side on the same bench they’d filmed the video from. He rested his chin on Drew’s shoulder and looked at some of the comments as he scrolled. They really were exactly what they would have expected—a lot of support and a little bit of vile anger.
“What do you do next?” Lee asked.
Before Drew could answer, his phone rang. The name Simon Underhill appeared on the screen.
“Shit,” Drew hissed. “With everything going on, I completely forgot I was supposed to meet with Simon on Thursday.” Drew tense before he answered the call. “Hi, Simon.”
The cautious smile on his face dropped almost at once. Lee could hear a voice, but he couldn’t make out the words Simon Underhill was saying.
“I understand,” Drew said, his voice sober. “No, no, I really do understand, and I respect your decision. Yes, completely.”
Simon Underhill said a few more things that Drew nodded at, and before Drew could so much as say goodbye, he pulled his phone away from his face and lowered it. Simon must have ended the call.
“That doesn’t sound good,” Lee said, putting his arm around Drew’s back.
“Simon has withdrawn his offer to meet with me,” Drew said, quiet and serious.
Lee knew enough to know it was a big deal. His protective instinct toward Drew shot into overdrive. “Well, there goes the Oscar,” he said, hugging Drew from the side and hoping humor was the way to go.
Drew laughed, so maybe he was right about humor after all. “It’s okay,” he said, planting one hand on Lee’s thigh. “It’s just one job, one director. I’m sure there will be other offers.”
He smiled at Lee, but there was enough uncertainty in his eyes to make Lee’s heart melt for him. “I’m sure there will be,” he agreed.
They kissed, and that would have gone on for much longer, but Drew’s phone rang again, this time with a different ringtone.
Drew pulled back from Lee quickly and instantly tapped his phone to accept a video call. Abby’s face appeared on the screen, but it wasn’t just her. Jessica was there with her, looking miserable.
“Hey,” Drew answered the call uncertainly.
“Hey,” Abby said right back. “I hope we didn’t catch you at a bad time.”
“Nope, not at all,” Drew said, resting one hand on Lee’s thigh again and holding his phone so they were both in the picture with the other. “What’s up?”
“Drew, I’m sorry,” Jessica blurted, tearful and snotty. “I’m really, really sorry.”
There wasn’t any reason to ask what she was sorry for, and Lee was surprised that he didn’t really care if she was serious about her apology or not.
“It happened,” Drew said with a shrug, which was far kinder than Lee would have been in the same situation. “And now we move on.”
“I wasn’t thinking straight,” Jessica went on, despite all the cues that she should let the whole thing go. “I was angry, hurt. I shouldn’t have lashed out like that.”
“And?” Abby prompted her, which was a dead giveaway as to why the apology was happening.
“And I will admit that I did know things were pretty much over between us a while ago,” Jessica went on.
“Jess, it’s okay, really,” Drew said, kindness laced with just a hint of annoyance.
“We had a good run,” Jessica went on anyhow. “I really did love you.”
“And I really did love you, too,” Drew said, going all soft and nostalgic.
“But yeah, we probably should have called it quits last year,” Jessica went on. “I knew it was over, but I panicked, because I still love you so much and I don’t know what to do.”
“Hey, hey, it’s okay,” Drew said. “Breakups are hard, even when they’re not super messy. We both changed, but we had a lot of history together.”
“I just—” She paused, then shook her head. “I’m sorry. That’s really all I want to say.”
“That’s all you need to say.” Drew smiled sadly at her. “We’re all good.”
“Okay,” Jessica said, then started crying harder. “Excuse me.” She got up and left the picture.
“Is she going to be okay?” Drew asked Abby.
“Yeah, eventually,” Abby said, shrugging one shoulder. “It’s just a lot, you know?”
“I definitely know,” Drew said with a lopsided smile.
Abby’s smile grew. “Now, are you okay?” she asked.
Drew glanced at Lee. “More than okay. I’m so happy.” He kissed Lee, which Lee didn’t mind at all, then adjusted his phone and looked at Abby again. “Whatever happens next, I’m confidently entering it all with a clear conscience and an open heart.”
“You’re such a poet,” Abby laughed.
“Um, no.” Lee stopped him, holding up a hand. “I’m the writer here, not you.”
Drew laughed. “Alright. You write our love story and I’ll play my part.”
“I like the sound of that,” Lee said, then kissed him again.
“Okay, if you two are just going to make out and get all horny, I’ll end the call,” Abby laughed.
“Sorry,” Drew said, sitting straighter and holding the phone level again. “Are you able to take care of Jessica?”
“That’s what I’ve been doing all day,” Abby said with a wink. “She’ll be fine. You’ll be fine. We’re all going to get through this and be better people because of it.”
“We absolutely will,” Drew agreed.
They said a few more parting words, then Drew put his phone away. Darkness had well and truly fallen at that point, but neither of them were in a big hurry to go inside.
“So is this the end of something or the beginning?” Lee asked after a few moments of cozy silence.
“Oh, it’s the beginning, definitely,” Drew said, hugging Lee from the side. “We probably still have a lot to work out and some social media turbulence to endure, but we’re absolutely just beginning this love story.”
“Good,” Lee said, resting a hand on the side of Drew’s face. “Because I love you, Drew Oberlin, and all I want is for us to be together.”
“I love you, too,” Drew said, kissing Lee quickly. “And we will definitely have a long and happy ending.”
It was the best promise he could have made, and Lee was certain he would make good on it.
