A Malicious Summer Vacation: A standalone holiday monster romance novella (Monsters of The Divide Bo
Monsters of The Divide
*Most of these are only briefly mentioned in passing, so don’t feel too overwhelmed.
Nepha (Our MMC) - Humanoid with metallic feathered wings. These are the creatures Angles were modeled from. They are exceptional hunters - even our MMC is wary of them. They are beautiful but cruel. Most believe that if they have hearts, they are made of stone.
Dremar - Think vampire and gargoyle. This species has different colored skin. Our MMC has blue-grey skin that is smooth and hairless, but others have shades of red or green or black … Eyes to match their skin color. Males and females have curly horns like an antelope. They are very fast on foot, even faster when flying. They have bat-like wings, a snake-like tail, fangs, and claws. They drink blood, not to survive, but to obtain power. They heal very quickly. Any being that they’ve tasted the blood of, they can incinerate with a thought. The dremar, but especially our MMC, are feared by other monsters.
Anza - Smaller comparatively in the monster realm - about the size of the average human female. They have shimmery skin like starlight. They are pretty and disarming. They are one of the fastest monsters, able to move so quickly they are a blur. They have sharp teeth, a hypnotizing gaze, and can secrete hallucinogens from their skin to incapacitate their prey, which they like to peel and eat. Death by anza is very slow and painful. Not only can they heal themselves, but they can heal others - if you can convince them to.
Xani - Scaled skin that is very tough. Hairless. Usually green but can be other colors. They have reflective, reptile-like eyes. Sharp teeth. Extremely fast. Can walk upright or on all fours. They have snake-like tails, and hate the light, always sticking to shadows unless the hunt of a prey brings them out.
Joteunn - Fur-covered like a werewolf, only they don’t shift. They have wolf-like ears and a snout with sharp teeth and fangs. They are pretty large comparatively in the monster world and are extremely strong. They heal very quickly as long as they have the magic to do so. They occasionally run in packs but prefer to hunt solo (as most monsters do). They do howl and bark to communicate, though they also speak.
Grateslung - Snake-like creature with the bottom half of a snake, the top half looks like a gargoyle without wings. Stone-like skin on the body, scaled skin on the lower half. Usually shades of grey or black but can be different colors. Their saliva is venomous, and they are very strong and fast.
Quilen - Tall, humanoid monster that’s thin but muscled. They have branch-like horns that look too heavy to hold up. They are dark skinned with black eyes, long spindly fingers with claws. They aren’t the fastest of monsters, but they are strong and can slip between shadows.
Grae - Feathered all over. Humanoid body with a sharp beak, eagle talons for feet, and wings for arms. They are not the smartest monster - they are more animalistic.
Hellhounds - Large dog-like creatures the size of a pony. They do not speak. They hunt in packs, but once their prey is caught, it’s every hellhound for themselves. They are a little further down on the food chain in the monster realm, which is why they tend to stay in groups.
Unicorns - They look just like our myths. Horse-like creatures with a single horn. But these unicorns are carnivorous with serrated teeth, razor sharp hooves, and are so strong, they can cave in a monster’s chest with one kick. Their horns also emit a strong electric shock that can incapacitate or even kill.
Menace - spider like monsters with blades for legs. Hairy. Can’t see well. Relies on sound waves and sense of smell. They lay eggs like spiders and shoot webs.
Oulurs - humans call them Oni. Demon-like. Red or black skin with horns and tusks and pointed tails. They will eat anything. Monster. Human. Animal. Plant. Garbage …
We might meet more monsters in the upcoming books in this series, but these are all the ones in this story.
Enjoy.
