Chapter 23 #3
All too soon, she broke the kiss and I frowned when she sat up. “What’s wrong? Was that out of line? I’m sorry. You just looked so kissable, I couldn’t help myself.”
She stood up and shook her head. “No, of course not, Vera. It was very much in the line. I just don’t like kissing like that. Like I don’t know what’s going on or where I’m supposed to go with it. I honestly don’t know how they did it in that spider movie.”
I laughed and pulled her closer. “You’re supposed to stay right here.” I cupped her jaw and leaned in to whisper, “Bésame, princesa.”
She shivered and I kissed her, letting it take me away. Kissing her was my favorite hobby. I wanted to practice and practice until I was a professional. I wanted to reach mastery level with her.
When she moaned into the kiss, my knees wanted to give out. I loved every sound she made, and had missed that one in particular.
I deepened the kiss, letting my hands roam her body. She hadn’t protested yet, so I snaked my hands to her back and rested them on her ass. I squeezed slightly and pulled her closer, groaning at the feel of her against me.
“Vera,” she whispered, breaking the kiss.
“Si, princesa?” I asked, refusing to let our mouths be apart any longer. I kissed her again, short and sweet so she had a chance to speak but also hoping she would want to keep going.
“Please,” she moaned, kissing me again. I grinned and continued my exploration of her body.
I had just gripped the edge of her shirt, ready to pull it up, when the phone rang, causing us both to jump in surprise. She let go of the waist of my pants and cleared her throat, walking over to the phone to pick it up.
“Hello?” Cara’s tone was a little more clipped than it should’ve been and I was smug, knowing she was upset about the interruption.
I didn’t hear the other end of the conversation, but Cara’s face softened before her reply. “Hey, doll. Yeah I was just about to hop in the shower. We lost track of time, but we’ll be down for dinner. Yeah, love you too, B. Bye.”
She hung up the phone and rubbed her face. “Shit. The rehearsal dinner starts in an hour. I got so caught up in my book and… I completely forgot what time it was.”
I smiled. “I’m sorry I’m so distracting. Should we shower together? Save time and water and all that?” I winked knowing she wouldn’t actually go for it.”
“You really can be distracting, and nice try, but no. It would take us even longer. You can go first.”
She tried to hide her blush, but she couldn’t hide anything from me. I decided not to comment on it, though, and went to take a shower, making a show of taking off my shirt before I made it to the bathroom. I turned around to see her staring at me, standing there in only my sports bra.
I went to take that off too but she interrupted me with a whisper. “Please, Vera. Don’t.”
I smiled. “I wouldn’t want us to be late for dinner,” I said with a wink. That proved to me she was fighting this. If she wasn’t, she wouldn’t have cared if I took my shirt off. I all but skipped into the bathroom.
Cara was trying to kill me. Not only was she in the shower, wet and naked, a few feet from me, she left the damn door open and it was taking everything I had in me not to even look in the direction of the bathroom. For thirty minutes I forced myself to look at my phone and keep myself distracted.
I breathed a sigh of relief when she stepped out of the bathroom, but that relief was cut short when I saw what she was wearing.
She wore that damn red dress and I couldn’t have gathered my thoughts if I’d tried. She looked mouth-watering and I really wished we didn’t have to leave this room. I wore a white button down shirt tucked into navy pants and brown suspenders. We looked like a perfect pair.
“Are you ready to go?” she asked, as if I wasn’t tempted to take my shirt off right there.
I stood up on shaky legs, walked over to her and stood inches away from her, smelling her perfume and clenching my fists so I didn’t reach out for her.
She must’ve smelled my cologne, because her nostrils flared and her eyes fluttered closed for a micro second. She cleared her throat. “What’s—”
“I’m ready, but know this. By the end of the night, that dress will be on the floor, just like it was in Fairview.
You really thought I wouldn’t remember what you were wearing that night?
Those slits that go all the way up to those damn hips?
How it clung to your skin, and how easy it was to slip off?
This thing has been building and building between us, Cara.
I feel it and I know you do, too, and it ends tonight. ”
I took a step back, giving her space. The look in her eyes was trying to pull me back in. It was so dark and filled with so much desire. “Is that right? I guess we’ll have to see, won’t we?” Her voice was anything but sure. Shaky and breathless.
I smiled and offered my arm. “Yes we will. Maybe if you’re good, I’ll let you take charge. Show me what I’ve been missing.”
“If you’re not careful, I might just take you up on that. Let’s go.”
“Oh, I’m counting on it.”
