Chapter 7 #2

I leaned over toward the passenger seat, then kissed Pril’s cheek. Once she gave me her attention after her bite of waffle, I spoke. “You ready ta get in there?”

We stopped at her favorite place before we got here and had a little car date before the appointment. She offered me her beautiful smile. “I’m ready to find out what our bean is.”

Her hand rubbed her protruding belly. She was so beautiful with my child growing inside of her. If she allowed me to, I wanted to put another one in her within eighteen months after our bean was born.

I got out of the car, walked around to the passenger side, then helped Pril out of the car. The perfume that she used smelled good as hell. It had me on her ass earlier after she sprayed it on.

We walked to the medical building hand in hand.

Just before we got to the front door, it was opened by none other than Derrick.

His very pregnant wife wasn’t far behind.

This shit was crazy. All of the appointments that we’ve had here, we have never seen them.

There was more than one practice in this building on different floors, so that may have been the reason.

“Pril, you look beautiful pregnant,” Derrick said absentmindedly. He was rewarded with a smack to his shoulder. “I mean, hey. Congratulations on the engagement.”

I shook my head. This nigga was bogus as fuck. I didn’t care for the longing for my fiancée in his eyes. His eyes were stuck on her belly.

His wife stood there with a dumbfounded look on her face. This chick was stupid like writing on wet paper. I knew he would have a problem with her later.

Pril smiled. “Thank you, Derrick. Tafari, I’m ready to go check on our bean.”

Say less! “Let’s do it,” I told her. “Could you move, bitch nigga?” He still stood in the way with his eyes on Pril’s belly.

My voice must have knocked him out of his goofy daze.

His eyes narrowed at me, but he didn’t say anything.

He simply moved out of the way. He and his woman watched us walk into the building.

The second the door closed behind us, you could hear the roar of Chasity’s voice.

She called him everything but a child of God or husband.

“That’s a damn mess,” Pril mumbled. She turned to glance at me. “Thank you for being you.”

I appreciated her compliment. It was easy for me to be my authentic self. I knew no other way.

It didn’t take us long to get called to the back.

We found out that we would have the ultrasound first. That made me grateful because at least we’d get the good news of what our bean was just in case later we heard something that we didn’t like.

It wasn’t that I expected it, but I wanted to be prepared for the worst.

“Are you two ready to see what you’ll be having?” The ultrasound technician, Amber, asked after she was ready to start. She was a cool, little white chick that had the personality of that white lady on those insurance commercials. A little ditzy, but cool.

We both nodded. I held Pril’s hand as the wand moved over her stomach.

Amber went over the weight and length which was one point nine pounds and twelve inches.

Immediately, I saw the worry in my woman’s eyes.

Her ass asked that fuck ass speaker, Zig-bitch as I called him, just this morning about what the weight should be.

Depending on the topic, she trusted that AI nigga’s word more than mine.

I had beef with a whole AI nigga, and he knew it.

“Alright, it’s time to let you know what your little bean is,” Amber excitingly said. She moved the wand around a little more. The corners of her lips curved upward. “Mommy and Daddy, say hi to your little miss.”

Pril squeezed my hand. “Oh my God! We’re having a girl.”

My mind ran a thousand miles a minute. “I’m going ta be a girl dad. I need ta get more guns and shit. I know our daughter ga be beautiful.”

Amber and Pril chuckled as Amber cleaned the gel off Pril’s stomach. She let us know that the doctor would be in to talk to us soon. Before she left, she gave us the photos of our daughter. I’m having a daughter.

“How you feelin’?” I asked after I kissed Pril’s lips. The smile on her face already told me, but I wanted to hear it from her mouth.

She turned her whole body toward me on the table. “I can’t wait to love her and . . . and have princess parties, and just be a momma. I’m finally going to have what I’ve always wanted. Thank you so much.”

My arms wrapped around her. “Nah, thank you, love. You da perfect woman, and you ga be da perfect mama and wife. We got seven weeks until our wedding slash baby shower.”

Yep, we were full steam ahead with the planning of our wedding.

At our pregnancy announcement party, we already knew the date of the original baby shower as we locked it in with our event planner and caterer.

Toward the end of the party, we told everyone that the baby shower would actually be our wedding. The love from the family was amazing.

Dr. Frog came into the room with a warm smile. “Alright, Mommy and Daddy, congratulations on your little girl. Pril, I know we’ve talked in the past about your desire for a daughter,” the doctor said.

“Thank you, Dr. Frog. I’m so excited. I’ve wanted this for so long,” Pril confirmed.

Dr. Frog nodded. “I know. Well, let’s get to the details of how your pregnancy is going. Pril, I hoped that your placenta would have moved up by this point, but it has not. Now, it still is not covering your cervix, so we are not at a worst-case scenario.”

“If it’s not the worst case, then what is it? What does that mean for Pril and our lil girl?” I asked her.

She shifted on her doctor’s stool. From her expression, whatever she was about to say would fuck Pril’s mental up. “What it means is that we may need to change your birth plan.”
