Chapter 24

Guillermo is staring at me, leaning against the opposite wall of the private elevator. Although I’ve never ridden it, I knew of its existence through Melissa.

His tone just now reminded me of when he spoke to me that day in the cafeteria, no longer the sexy man who nearly drove me crazy last night. Thinking about it brings warmth to my body, and I observe him through my lashes, only to find his gaze burning into me.

As soon as our eyes meet, in one swift move, he’s standing before me. His huge hand holds my wrists behind my back, and I nearly die when his mouth nibbles on my ear.

“You ran away from me, Miss Freitas. Why?”

I can’t think. How can he ask for an answer when his scent is intoxicating all my senses?

“Answer me.”

“Answer what?”

He laughs, the bastard. His other hand lifts my face, and I’m desperate for his kiss, but he postpones it, brushing against my mouth, teasing. “You ran away from me today.”

“Can we talk later?”

“Why, little one? What do you want to do now?”

Instead of answering, I stand on tiptoes and lightly bite his lower lip. Then I suck slowly.

It’s like lighting a powder keg. I love his passionate way.

He releases my hands and pulls me by the waist, bending down, rubbing his hard sex against my belly. I clutch his shoulders because my legs weaken when his hot tongue invades me in wild, deep movements.

The elevator has already stopped on his floor, but he stretches his arm and turns a little key, locking it.

The man is multitasking because he never stops kissing me, his hands pulling me by the buttocks in a grip so strong I think I’ll have some marks.

“Mmmm . . .”

“I missed those little moans.”

“We can’t be like this in an elevator.”

As if to confirm what I’m saying, we hear voices outside, and even though he seems to hesitate, he backs off to catch his breath.

Backs off is a figure of speech because our bodies are still glued together. Only our mouths have parted.

“Wow. If every time you want to argue with me, you kiss me like that afterward, feel free.”

He smiles. “If we weren’t in an elevator as you pointed out, Miss Freitas, you’d get much more than a kiss.”

“Like what, for instance?”

“Come with me. We’re not done yet.” He straightens my dress and tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear.

“They will notice.”

“Face them. Don’t let them intimidate you.”

“I don’t know if I can . . .”

“You can. You’re perfect.”

When we finally reach the reception that leads to his office, I completely forget my embarrassment when I see Kathleen with a huge cardboard box on the table, packing books and picture frames.

I look at Guillermo, but his expression has turned indifferent. He doesn’t even seem to notice her.

Was she fired?

“Good morning,” I greet, but of course, she ignores me.

I keep walking towards Guillermo’s office and notice a wet floor sign to my left. I step around it. Probably some staff member is cleaning the marble floor.

He’s standing at the entrance of his office waiting for me, and after I enter, his hand goes to the small of my back.

“What happened to her?”

He locks the door, and before answering, he picks me up, walking over to the couch. “I transferred her.”

“Because of me? Because of what happened yesterday?”

“No, I had already considered the change. Yesterday just expedited the decision. Now, let’s talk about us.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

He takes my mouth in a kiss that makes me think of New Year’s fireworks.

“You’re not playing fair,” I accuse as soon as I can breathe again.

“Just refreshing your memory. Why did you run away from me today?”

“Your brother is a little intimidating.”

“You weren’t afraid of him.”

“How can you tell?”

“Because you managed to deal with an abusive boss in that cafeteria for six months.”

“You’re right. I left because I was embarrassed.”

“Because of me?”

“Because of everything. This morning, things seemed different.”

“Why?”

“I don’t want to be the type of woman who has an affair with her boss. That was the first reason I left.”

“And the other?”

“I couldn’t work in the same clothes as yesterday. I needed to go to my room,” I say, feeling my face heat up. “There was something I didn’t have.”

He presses his mouth to my ear. “What was that, beautiful?”

“You know what.”

“I don’t.”

I can see the satisfied smile on his face, and I want to hit him. Guillermo doesn’t fool me.

“You ruined my panties.”

“Do you know how much hearing you say that turns me on? Now all I can think about is our candy play.”

I feel his erection beneath my bum.

“As for the first thing you said: I’ve never been involved with an employee, if that’s what you’re thinking.”

I pull back to look at him, and it doesn’t take me long to be sure he’s telling the truth.

Guillermo isn’t the type who would need to lie to get a woman.

He doesn’t have that flirtatious or charming style.

I can clearly see the difference between how he treats me and how he acts with the other secretaries.

“Okay. I believe you.”

“As for your lack of panties . . .”

Although a little embarrassed, I start to laugh, but then I remember that as tempting as it may be, the chance of this between us ending well is minimal. “If you’ve never been involved with an employee, why me?”

“The way you attract me caught me by surprise. You can’t deny how we feel about each other.”

“I’m not denying it, just confused.”

As much as things in the elevator were hot, he now just holds me in his arms, keeping me in his lap, and I can relax. I don’t like the idea of us being in a more intimate situation knowing that woman is out there.

“Who is with Nina right now?” I ask, struggling to focus on a neutral subject.

“Joaquín.”

“Did she agree to stay with him? It seemed like the last thing she wanted when I left.”

“My brother isn’t a bad person, Olívia. Just overly suspicious. One day I’ll tell you the reason.”

“You don’t have to. I didn’t mean to pry.”

“You’re not prying. You have the right to know why the scoundrel was so aggressive this morning. He’s very protective of his niece.”

“Why?”

“Nina wasn’t . . . She wasn’t wanted by her mother . . .”

“What do you mean?”

“Have dinner with me tonight. We need to talk. There are many things you don’t know, and I’d like us to start with all the cards on the table.”

“But what about Valentina?”

“She’ll be fine with her uncle. You told me you missed going out. Let’s do that. Go out, spend some time together away from here. Get to know each other a little more.”

“You definitely aren’t like the CEOs in romance novels.”

“How so?”

“The next step, in the stories I read, would be for you to try to take me to bed and make me fall madly in love with you.”

“Don’t doubt for a second that I want you naked in bed or in the shower, or again on the kitchen counter, but for today, just go out with me.”

I decide to take the risk.

“All right.”

I’ve just left Guillermo’s office—after he kissed me against the door as if I were the last source of oxygen on the planet—when I come across Kathleen again.

What is she keeping in that box? We were in there for at least twenty minutes, but she seems to be doing the same thing as when I arrived.

She now stares at me with a face full of anger, and since I’m not in the mood for trouble, I head to the elevator—one of the communal ones this time, that all hotel staff use.

The wet floor sign is no longer in the way, so I walk straight on without worrying and try to keep as much distance as possible between me and the woman who seems to want to fly at my throat.

As soon as I take two steps in my newly acquired heels, however, the floor disappears beneath my feet.

I try to grab onto something, but there’s nothing to hold on to, and my body hits the ground hard.

I feel an intense pain in the back of my head at the same time I hear a scream.

It takes me a few seconds to understand that it came from me, but then, everything goes dark.
