Cali looks so upset when she tells us about her shitty ex not wanting to be with her during her heats that it breaks something in me. Only Bax's hand on my shoulder keeps me from running to her and sweeping her into my arms, hoping I can hug all the hurt pieces back together.

If I ever meet that man, there would be words if not fists.

As Cali savors each bite, my alpha purrs softly.

We're feeding her—caring for our omega. It's like the best dream.

By the time she's ready to go, Seth has cracked a few more jokes, she's allowed Bax to rub her back, and I've made her a giant to-go cup with more hot chocolate.

Her smile is radiant, and pride swells within me for my pack.

We make our way to her car, a little yellow VW Bug with no business near the snow.

I want to hand her the keys to my Jeep and beg her to drive it, leaving this thing parked until the summer months.

However, Bax, Seth, and I discussed our approach before Seth checked on Cali in her room.

She's skittish, and pushing her too hard or fast might scare our little omega away.

We need to maintain a level of calm. Something Bax excels at, but I struggle with, and Seth is incapable of managing while sitting through a movie, let alone with our mate.

I notice Seth opening his mouth to speak, probably to offer her his car.

Catching his eye, I shake my head, and he reluctantly closes it again.

Seth digs and pushes while Bax rocks the car, and I spread cat litter and push. Eventually, we get it unstuck. While pushing, I notice the shopping bags in Cali's trunk. There are plenty of items with large yellow clearance stickers on them. I'm really looking forward to pampering my omega.

The path back to town is clear. It appears the plow came through but stopped when it got to Calis's car and turned back. She clearly can't get through the snow back to her cottage.

"I don't need anything before work very badly, but how will I get home tonight?

" she asks, eyeing the still snow covered road leading to her place.

I want to tell her that she doesn't have to go home, that the omega suite has always been and will always be hers, and that she should just move in. But again, chill.

"I'll call Bruce once you leave. He owns the plow company. I'll let him know he's clear to finish this road." She looks visibly relieved. I have a feeling she's used to doing everything for herself.

"Thank you guys for all of your help. I'm sorry it was so much trouble." She looks genuinely contrite, and I want it to stop immediately.

Seth steps up and folds Cali into his arms. She doesn't resist or pull back but melts into him. The top of her head only reaches his shoulder. "You are the best trouble I always want to be in." he says to the top of her head. She snuggles her face into his chest, accidentally scent marking him.

"Oh," she exclaims in a breathy voice that has my cock going hard.

Well, harder than it's been all morning.

It's constantly at some state of hardness around Cali.

She's clearly about to apologize when Seth leans down and rubs his cheek along hers, scent-marking her in return.

She blushes, and it's the cutest damn thing I've ever seen.

Cali turns to us and envelopes Bax in a warm embrace, claiming him with her scent.

He hugs her tightly, returning the gesture with his own scent mark.

When it's my turn, I lean down and make sure to scent-mark her first. Her wide, hopeful eyes meet mine.

She wraps her arms around me, pressing her face into my chest with a soft sigh, scent-marking me back.

A deep purr rumbles through me. The warmth of her presence and scent leaves me yearning for more.

More of her, more of this connection that keeps pulling us closer together. I don't want to let go.

We help her turn her car around and reluctantly watch her drive back to the Library for work. No wonder her scent had been so strong there. I chuckle at the thought.

"Unfortunately, we have jobs too," Bax reminds us, ever the responsible one.

We trudge back up to the house to get ready.

We need to check on things and do some more paperwork.

I also have some new recipes to try. When we walk in, the whole place smells of Cali's perfume.

I never want her to be away so long that it fades. I'm addicted.
