I follow Xander into a small sitting room. It’s comfortable and has various photos of the guys around.

“Dominic set this up for when new fosters arrived, instead of an office or somewhere more public,” I give him a nod as I look at the photos; most are of the guys when they first arrived at the chalet. I decide I’ve stalled enough, and I take a seat next to Xander.

He takes my hand and places a file on his lap.

“I’ve done your blood work on a deeper level than what would happen for a DNA test, and I think I have some answers for you.” I give him a nod, and he opens the file.

“You are already aware your blood shows human, wolf and mage DNA. What is also shown at a deeper level is Angel, but that was really small when I looked deeper into Mika’s and Nikoli but only your dad had it, so it must be from your grandmother’s line.

Mika’s was also small, and I have a test running to see how far back it could be,” he’s pointing at marks on the page, but nothing there makes sense.

“You have ancestors that were elemental and earth mages, as well as one that had soul magic,” I get a nod.

Soul Mages are where stories of Grim Reapers and Necromancers come from.

Depending on the strength of their magic, they could reanimate the dead for periods of time to find out how they died, they could also see souls, and how close to death they were.

“These markers here show you have all three, but they aren’t showing like they traditionally would show in mages”, he pulls out a sheet and points to how they should be seen, then goes back to my results.

“This here is your Angel DNA, and it seems to be affecting that of your mage heritage. This is your shifter marker, which also seems to be creeping into the Angel marker,” I nod again, not understanding what he means. He pulls a book from beside him, and it’s a medical journal of some kind.

“This is a journal that covers an investigation into supernatural’s. You can borrow, but I will give you cliff notes now.” I give him a nod and take the book, resting it on my knee. The smell of leather and ink from it hits me as I run my fingers over the cover.

“Angels are not affected by modern medicine, human or supe, Soul mages have the opposite affects to them unless you get the dose absolutely correct, I think this is why you struggle with medication and I am looking into what are the correct doses for you, now we know, Alma is also looking into natural remedies” I nod at him and something in me feels relief.

“Your sight, I think, is from your soul mage and shifter sides melding. You see the aura of our alters, how you know someone is about to shift, it’s why it doesn’t work the other way around, your Angel side is how you know if someone means you harm” I give him another nod, a lot of things clicking into place.

“Would Angels not sense it?” I ask, having met a few over the years, but he shakes his head.

“Your Dad’s and Bray’s markers are too small; it doesn’t even affect them. Yours is larger, but I was looking for anything and everything, so unless they focused on your Angel traits, they wouldn’t spot it” I shift slightly, and he smiles at me.

“I’ve found some lore on as to why Brayden ended up with both alters but I haven’t had chance to look into it yet, again it links to your Angel DNA and from the minimal information I found on your Grandmothers family it has happened before, so it is something that could happen to your offspring,” I startle at that and decided between me and Brayden we need to make a note of our quirks to help future generations.

We discuss a few other things he found to see if anything else rings a bell, and we then head back to sneak some extra treats from the kitchen.

I have no idea how to process all this, and Xander has offered to explain it all to Dad and my brothers.

I recommend having Ren there as he is my Alpha mate, and these things will affect any kids we have.

He ends with an apology that he still can’t work out contraception for me, but I should be okay as long as the guys keep taking theirs.
