Chapter 25 The Attempt On Greg #2

No words, not even a sob. Finally, she looked up with anger in her eyes like the day that Thomas Pendergast II insulted her by calling her a little fry, not even a minnow in the ocean. “KILL HIM!” came the voice with such hatred and loathing. “Do NOT let Greg Garrelson live. He took MY Lance.”

“Absolutely, Suzy,” Jenny assured her as she sat down beside her and gave her a side embrace. “Do you mind if I use your husband to do the job?”

“He should have done it the last time and My Lance wouldn’t be dead.”

“We’ll get vengeance for him,” Jenny vowed. “I’ll stake my life on it. Millard will eliminate Greg Garrelson, or I’m not the Matriarch.”

“Thank you, sister,” Suzy replied. “I want proof that he’s dead!”

“Then you shall have it. I know that Greg’s returning from Cincinnati tonight.” She smiled softly. “You rest here, Suzy. I’ll go find Millard and give him the go ahead to take Greg out when he arrives.”

“NO!” Suzy demanded. “That asshole stole from my home, and I want his life stolen from him in his own home!”

“Whatever you want, Suzy.” Jenny kissed Suzy on the forehead. “I’ll go find Millard and we’ll start planning how we do it. That may take some time.”

“Take all you need, so long as he dies in his home!” she said with a guttural wailing that followed it. Jenny slowly left the office, the wailing continuing within.

“Millard! Come with me. Suzy wants Greg dead in his home. She’s in the office so we’ll have to plan this in my room,” she said loud enough that the bodyguards knew what to do.

“Now, Millard my dear,” she said in her bedroom.

Why don’t you use that weapon between your legs to punish me the way you’ll punish Greg. ”

“Of course,” he said as his pants fell to the floor. He’d just climbed on top of Jenny when the door opened. Suzy was shocked, but before she could scream – pzzt, pzzt. Suzy reached for her chest as she fell backwards to the floor with a soft thud.

“YOU SHOT SUZY!” Jenny screamed, and rolled her naked body out from under Millard to rush to her side. Millard set the gun down on the bed, the smoke still rising from the silencer.

“She shouldn’t have walked in on us,” he said slowly as he got out of bed and moved over beside the two women.

Suzy was choking and spitting up blood, her eyes looking at Jenny and Millard in betrayal.

“Don’t give me those eyes. You were using Lance like this.

Why shouldn’t I be with the woman I love? ”

Jenny watched as Suzy choked on the blood and listened as the breath leaving her body made a death rattle. The light didn’t fade in Suzy’s eyes. No. It just stopped as if there never was a light there to begin with. “We need to clean this up.”

“Later!” Millard insisted then grabbed both of Jenny’s arms and pulled her up to lay her over the bed.

Her arms were pinned behind her and her face was in a pillow where she couldn’t make a sound.

“NOW I’M TAKING WHAT’S MINE!” Outside the room, the body guards could only hear the muffled sounds and squeaking of the bed.

They didn’t dare enter as the Matriarch was having her ‘pleasure time.’ They had no clue that Suzy had entered the back way through the private entrance, much less that she’d died just moments ago.

They stood at their posts and kept silent for fear of becoming a ‘fishing lure’ in Longview Lake.

“You know that WE are going to have to clean that up,” Jenny said as she stroked the hair on Millard’s chest, smiling softly. “I will need to announce to the family that Suzy has taken leave of her senses in her grief for what happened to Lance.”

“I’ll just put her in the cold storage unit in basement section four, with the others that are waiting for dumping.

As for the blood, it’s nice that marble doesn’t soak it in.

Those towels can be burned to destroy any evidence.

Later, we’ll make it look like a hit from a rival, then go eliminate them. ”

“Perfect, Millard. Perfect as always. Now, don’t forget that she wanted Greg killed in his own home.”

“Don’t worry about that. I’ve been watching their communications. Greg’s going to be hosting an event for Veronique. Wendy will pass me the details and the security coverage. We’ll hit them so hard that you’ll need a time ship to find them.”

“Greg,” Carry said softly as they approached the jet. “Did you make a decision yet?”

“No,” he said softly. “Veronica asked the same thing. And to be honest, there’s something that’s been nagging my brain for the past few cities.”

“Which is?” she asked quietly.

“Where’s The Enforcer?” he somberly replied. “Why did he hit us that night?”

“Wendy said that was ordered, but she didn’t tell me.” Carry glanced over her shoulders. “She confided in Katie, who doesn’t know that we cloned her phone so we can listen in on their conversations.”

“Well,” he said as they got to the stairwell up to the plane. “Something just doesn’t add up and I can’t put my finger on it. I just don’t think we’re out of the woods yet. It’s occupying my mind and I can’t look at my heart when you might be in danger.”

“That’s sweet, Greg. But it’s my choice. I decided, not you.” Greg shook his head. “So, get over that and choose. We deserve to know what you truly want.”

“I know,” he admitted. “Would you ascend the stairs first?”

“So you can watch my ass as I climb up?” she giggled then saw the look in his eyes. “Oh! You really want to watch it!” she declared with understanding.

“It’s a simple pleasure, but it’s one that brings me a lot of joy. It’s pure poetry in motion watching your hips sway.” He let out a sigh. “Besides, it is supposed to be ladies first.”

“You are incorrigible, Greg Garrelson,” she laughed. “Alright, but the next time it’s going to cost you, because I’m not doing this again for free.”

“I can live with that,” he said as she started up the stairs. His eyes were mesmerized by the movement so much that he didn’t even hear Billy walk up from behind him. Greg just let out a soft whistle.

“I know what you mean, Greg,” Billy said and slapped him on the shoulders. “I could watch her walking away all day long. It’s just incredible and graceful in beauty.”

“Billy?!” Greg said startled. “Sorry.” He took a breath. “I didn’t even hear you.”

“She has that effect on both of us. Gets you so lost in her beauty that the rest of the world just disappears from view.”

“Now, that’s something you don’t hear men admit every day,” Cassie said as she arrived. “If you two are going to stand there star struck, would you at least move aside so I can get aboard?”

“Sorry,” they said and parted so Cassie could pass between and head up the stairs.

“Would both of you care to get on the plane?” Veronica said as she arrived. “Billy, please keep an eye on Carry and the girls per section 11 of our agreement.”

“You got it V. I’ll see you onboard?” Billy said.

“Yeah, Billy. I need to get the barbeque items required listing from you for the gala at mi casa.”

“I’ll get a list together,” he said and moved to get on the stairs.

“Greg,” she said softly. “I need some certainty from you. Tell me that you have at least some idea who you want.” Greg stood there in silence for a moment and Veronica took it in, trying to read what he was thinking.

“I do,” he said slowly, looking into her eyes and seeing the love from within.

He winked at her then smiled and his eyes went bright blue.

Veronica smiled. “I just need to handle this situation. WHEN this is over, I’m done with all the cloak and dagger.

I want to have what I’m watching happening all around me.

” He took her hand and lifted it to his lips to kiss it softly.

“Family.” He turned and headed up the stairwell onto the jet while she stood there looking down at her hand.

‘Did he just tell me that I’m who he wants?

Was that what that look in his eyes meant?

’ Veronica thought to herself then looked up and saw him wink down at her again from the top of the stairs.

‘Don’t read too much into this, Veronica.

It’s not over yet.’ She shook her head and stepped onto the stairs.

“I can’t wait to get back home,” she said with exhaustion. “I need the break.”

“I know, V. That’s why I scheduled the breaks in the tour.” James kissed her cheek softly as he joined her on the stairs. “Let’s get home and take a well-earned rest.”

Tommy, Terry and Keith were close behind. Veronica looked back at the terminal. She noticed Mark was walking Tina out, and Keith Dankard was the last one out. As they made their way aboard, Veronica thought, ‘we’re finally safe at last.’

“Thank God we’re heading home,” Wendy said from the back of the limo that had been sent to pick them up. “It’s a little quiet without Carry and Cassie,” she observed.

“Veronica is such a taskmaster,” Katie replied. “I can’t believe she expects them to work up the numbers on Veronique before they can head home. It’s a Monday morning, but we just got home after that red-eye.”

“I’m going to say hi to mom and dad, then drop into my bed and sleep the rest of the day away.” Wendy leaned deep into the seat, dropping her head back.

“I wish Tina could have come with us,” Katie said somberly. “I like having her on the team.”

“Yeah,” Wendy said as she twirled her finger in her hair. “She’s really cool, but she doesn’t know about the Family. We have to get approval before we think about bringing her around.”

“Do you think we can ask her?”

“Umm, I dunno,” Wendy said and dropped her hand from her hair. “Everything’s been really good since we brought Carry back into the Family. Even Carry has been happy to be back home, serving the Matriarch.”

“I didn’t think she’d want to be part of the Family when I first met her,” Katie admitted. “But she’s so eager to serve in any way she can.”
