What were your expectations of the book based solely on the cover? Were you surprised? What motifs do you notice?
A Tangled Magic is loosely inspired by various versions of the fairytale “Rapunzel.” What kind of similarities do you see to the version of Rapunzel you know? What kind of differences stood out to you?
The book opens with the epigraph, “Trust is the mother of deceit.” How do you think trust is demonstrated by Netta throughout the book? Who does she instantly trust? Who does she remain suspicious of? Do you always agree with Netta’s opinions about people?
Patrick’s motivations, whether they are solely ambitious or for a greater common good, are questioned by Netta and others throughout the book. Did your opinion of him evolve? Do you think Patrick is justified in doing the things he does?
Baldbeak starts off as Netta’s only friend, but there are further reveals about his role in her life. Does Baldbeak believe he is a loyal friend in his own way? How so?
