chapter 58
Chapter 58 - suffocating
The first time Aarav saw the flower shop-
he didn't go inside.
He had been driving back from a meeting when the familiar arrangement of white lilies and soft pink roses caught his eye.
His hands tightened around the steering wheel.
The sign above the shop read-
Petals Promise.
His heartbeat slowed.
Then quickened.
Its been 2 years 4 months and 21 days since he last saw her.
He finally found her.
In a different city.
Everything was different from before.
She look happy but quite unfamiliar. Which make him feel a invisible distance between them.
He grip his chest, it was painful.
A familiar pain.
But no matter what he will definitely make up for the past mistakes he had done.
He will win over kavya again.
He will kneel against her and apologise again and again.
No matter how much time she will take to forgive him, he still want to try.
Maybe...
A few minutes
A few hours
Months
Or years
Maybe a couple of decades
Or maybe.....
Maybe his entire lifetime.
He still want to try.
He want kavya by his side.
She is his beloved afterall.
______
Some instinct made him stop the car across the street.
He sat there quietly.
Watching.
People came and went.
A young couple left carrying a bouquet.
An elderly woman smiled as Kavya walked her to the door.
A little boy proudly held a sunflower almost as tall as himself.
And then-
he saw her.
She was laughing.
Not politely.
Not because she felt obligated.
A real laugh.
Bright.
Gentle.
Alive.
Aarav forgot to breathe.
For a long moment, he simply watched.
She looked different.
Healthier.
The tiredness that had once lived in her eyes was gone.
She looked...
at peace.
His lips curved into a faint smile.
It was the first genuine smile he had worn in a long time.
Not because she was with him.
Because she was happy.
He remembered the promise he had made that rainy night.
"I'll never hurt you."
His breathing become labour and painful.
His heart skipped for a few seconds and start beating violently.
He let out a painful groan.
What is he doing now.
Isn't appearing in front of her hurt?
After all she hate him.
If walking into that shop risked disturbing the life she had rebuilt-
then he wouldn't.
Not today.
Maybe not ever.
His fingers loosened on the steering wheel.
Something wet fell on the back of his hand.
One drop.
Two drop.
.......
Quietly...
he started the engine again.
Just before driving away, he looked back one last time.
Kavya was helping a little girl choose between daisies and tulips.
She bent down to the child's height, smiling as she tucked a tiny flower behind the girl's ear.
The little girl giggled.
Kavya laughed with her.
Aarav closed his eyes briefly.
"Thank you..."
he whispered.
Not to anyone in particular.
Just...
thank you.
She had found the happiness he had once stolen from her.
That was enough.
Or at least...
he wanted it to be.
As his car disappeared into traffic, neither of them knew-
fate had already begun writing another chapter.
Not one built on regret.
But on choices.
Choices that, this time-
would be made with love.
But he didn't knew that fate has always been tricky on him......
