Chapter 28 Unknown
Unknown
The room is silent.
Not tense.
Not chaotic.
Controlled.
Which makes the shift that follows even sharper.
“They got her out.”
No one reacts immediately.
Then—
“Yes.”
“And the node?”
A beat.
“Lost.”
That lands.
Heavier than it should.
The man at the head of the table closes his eyes.
Just for a second.
Not defeat.
Calculation.
“She wasn’t supposed to win that fast.”
“No,” another voice replies. “She wasn’t supposed to win at all.”
Silence stretches.
Then breaks.
“Change the game.”
The words are quiet.
But final.
And somewhere far away—
The consequences begin.
