Chapter 10 Wedding Day

After we had confessed our feelings to each other, Jiang Zeyu told Parents that he intended to marry me.

Parents were overjoyed. They could not wait to start preparing the betrothal gifts and the wedding.

Even though I was only an Adopted Daughter, and I was marrying my own Older Brother, they had no intention of shortchanging me.

Jiang Zeyu grew busy as well, setting about preparations for the grand wedding.

I stayed in my room and obediently embroidered my wedding dress.

The days passed quickly. Before I knew it, the wedding day had arrived.

Mother looked at me in my wedding clothes and could not help reddening around the eyes.

"Mother, don't cry.

"Even after I marry, I will still be in the Jiang family. I will still stay by your side."

"You cry and it makes me want to cry too." I pressed my lips together, my eyes stinging red as well.

"No more tears, no more tears. Mother won't cry, and Jiaojiao won't cry either." She stroked my hair.

"I know that after you marry, Jiaojiao will still stay by my side."

"But the moment I saw you in that wedding dress, Mother suddenly realized—Jiaojiao has grown up." Mother said with feeling.

I could not help throwing myself into her arms, holding her waist tightly.

After a while, Mother gently patted my back.

"It's time. Don't keep your Older Brother waiting." She stroked my head.

"Mm." I answered in a muffled voice.

When I pushed open the door, the sound of gongs and drums grew louder.

When I stepped over the fire basin, finished bowing to heaven and earth, and heard that cry of the rites completed, a deep calm settled in my heart.

From then on, he was my Husband.

He had grown up beside me in the first half of my life. He would grow old with me through the second half.

This was the person I would spend my whole life with.

"Wife." Jiang Zeyu called softly.

"I'm here."

"Husband." I answered.
