Epilogue

ROMAN

It’s too damn hot. I tug at my shirt with a huff, then snort, trying to clear the burning scent of sulfur from my nose.

The fluttering sound of a page turning is so soft it’s irritating, getting under my skin and making everything itch.

A quiet growl builds in my throat, and I pace a circle around the overstuffed couch Cas is sitting on.

“Do I need to put a leash on you and take you out for a walk?” he mutters without looking up from the book he’s reading, swirling the blood in his wineglass before taking a sip.

The slurping sound of the sip is even more grating than the sound of the pages turning. I growl again in response and tug my shirt all the way off, tossing it aside and making another loop around the couch.

“Or I could get Grim in here to wrestle with you,” he offers, still sounding bored.

“I already wore him out earlier.” I sigh.

“How many days until the full moon? Two?” He takes another sip from his glass.

The mention of the coming full moon sends another pulse of heat through me, and my inner wolf whines impatiently.

“Thirty hours,” I grunt. “I don’t understand why the moon cycle should even affect me in the damn underworld.”

“Your biology doesn’t change, regardless of your location. Why don’t you just pop out and get laid? You’ll be a lot less annoying without blue balls on top of all that full moon energy.”

Like I didn’t think of that myself. I’ve gone out every night this week, but for some reason, ever since I caught that scent at Full Moon when we were looking for Rune, I’ve been picky as hell.

Last night I had a faery twink sitting on my lap with his hands all over me and his tongue in my ear.

My dick was more than on board with his horny whispered suggestions of taking him out into the alley and fucking him until the sun came up, but my wolf wasn’t having it.

I’m not in the mood to explain any of that to Cas though, and there’s not much to explain when I don’t understand it myself. Instead, I just grunt again and keep pacing.

It’s not like my wolf isn’t just as keyed up as I am.

I can feel the impatient, frantic energy that always comes with the full moon coursing through me, and the lust that comes with it definitely doesn’t belong only to my human side.

I can feel the ache at the base of my cock where a knot will swell in just a couple of days, and my wolf wants to make use of it just as badly as I do.

He just doesn’t seem to agree that any willing hole will do the trick.

All of a sudden, he has standards, apparently.

What the fuck am I supposed to do with that?

“Oh, good, there you two are.” Auri pops his head into the library.

Cas still doesn’t look up from his book, but he raises his glass to acknowledge the boss.

I whip around fast, hoping he’s about to tell us there’s a new assignment.

If my wolf won’t let me work off this energy the old-fashioned way, a mission is the next best thing.

Preferably one where we actually get to fuck somebody up for a change.

“I’ve got an assignment for you,” he says.

“Hell yeah.” I don’t bother trying to hide my enthusiasm. Just wind me up and point me at the target.

His lips twitch with amusement. “There’s a good pet.”

“Yeah, yeah. Just tell us the details, please,” Cas says impatiently.

A red folder appears in midair in front of me, and I reach out to grab it. An excited shiver runs through me, all the way down to my suddenly persnickety wolf.

“Have fun.” Auri smirks before disappearing.

I flip the folder open to read the details, and a toothy grin spreads over my face. My wolf vibrates impatiently, and I can feel a little whine tighten my throat. Apparently, he approves of this assignment. Goddess knows why, but I’ll take it.

“Ready to go?” I reach across the back of the couch and shove Cas’s book to get him to put it down.

He huffs but sets his book and glass both on the table in front of him, then gracefully stands up.

“Fine, let’s go.”

“Hell yeah,” I say again, and we slip into the void.
