30| Midnight kiss

We've been stuck up here for about 30 minutes and I'm confident that she's going delusional.

"My nose is so cold," she whined, pulling her sleeves down and covering her nose.

"Nathan, let's just jump off, I'm sure we'll survive," she said, tugging at my arm.

I sighed, giving her a blank look. "See!

You're getting irritated, I'm getting annoying, that's a sign.

We need to find a way to get down whether they fix it or not," she rambled.

"Shh!" I said, clamping my hand over her mouth. "You've been rambling for the 30 minutes that we've been stuck up here. Just zip it." She rolled her eyes but nodded. I removed my palm from her mouth and looked down. There's no sign of progress yet. We just sat in silence for a really long time.

I was staring at the lights that were wrapped around the Ferris Wheel when I realized that apart from the people yelling in panic around us, this is quite romantic. And it's a quite good opportunity to kiss her.

"Emma."

"Yes?" she asked.

"How well do you think we know each other now?" I asked, turning to her.

"Hmm, well enough," she shrugged, "Why?" She said, looking up at me rather than the toy she's been holding onto this entire night. "Why are you asking?" she frowned in confusion.

"No reason," I mumbled, my eyes traveling across her face, getting stuck on her lips just a beat longer than the rest. She chuckled, shaking her head and looking around before looking back at me. "What?" I asked.

"You're thinking of kissing me, aren't you?"

Silence.

"You're thinking of being all romantic," she sang, scooting closer to me and hugging onto my arm.

"No," I shrugged, pulling my arm out of hers and looking around at the view of the lights rather than looking at her.

"Nathan," she giggled. I avoided looking at her while my cheeks flushed and got warm. "You're blushing," she whispered in my ear.

"Your nose is about as red as Rudolph's, so..." I trailed off, scoffing.

"Nathan," she laughed, grabbing my face and turning it to her. She was so close. I clicked my tongue, shrugging her off. She chuckled, forcing me to look at her.

"What?" I huffed.

She smiled softly, her eyes meeting mine before falling down to my lips. "You're not planning on kissing me tonight, are you?" she whispered.

"No, you said we don't know each other well enough, and I've still got plenty to find out about you," I rolled my eyes.

"So, is that a yes or no?" she taunted.

"No. It's a no," I said.

"Okay," she nodded slowly. "If you're not gonna do it, I might as well," she shrugged before grabbing my shirt in her fist and pulling me forward, pressing her lips to mine. I smiled against her lips before kissing her back.

There was a loud crash and the Ferris Wheel jerked before it started slowly going down and people started cheering. She laughed, pulling away. "Look at that, people cheered when we kissed," she smirked.

"Yeah, that's definitely what they cheered for," I scoffed.

"How do you feel knowing that our first kiss was a midnight kiss?" she asked, resting her elbow on my shoulder as we got closer to the ground.

"Midnight kiss?" I frowned in confusion.

"It's midnight," she whispered. I looked down at my phone and sure enough, it flashed 12:00.

"I feel..." I sighed, "Great. Knowing that technically, we're kissing today and last night. You kissed me at 11:59 and pulled away at midnight. So, technically speaking, we don't have a date for our first kiss," I smirked.

"Hmm, maybe I should have done that with better timing, we can just act like that didn't happen if you want," she shrugged.

"No," I said quickly, my head snapping to her direction.

She laughed, brushing her finger across my cheek. "You have a wish," she said.

"I wish for you," I replied.

"You'd waste a wish on something you've already got?

" She raised a brow at me. The Ferris Wheel came to a halt and the gate was opened for us.

I stepped out and then helped her out. "After being stuck up there for 45 minutes with the wind this strong, I feel like a mess," she chuckled, letting her hair down and ruffling it out before throwing it back up.

"A beautiful mess," I smirked.

"Ew, don't say that that's so corny," she laughed, grabbing onto my arm as we reached my car.

I rolled my eyes and pushed her against the car while I stood directly in front of her.

"What?" she chuckled. I didn't say anything, just held one side of her face while I leaned down and kissed her.

She kissed me almost instantly and we kissed for a while, both of us breaking it off to catch our breaths.

"I'm really cold, can we please get in the car," she chuckled.

I can't even offer her a jacket, she's already wearing a teddy bear one. I opened the door for her before getting in myself and then starting up the car and driving us back.

After the long drive back, when we finally got back and entered her house, we were greeted by pin-drop silence. "Is your mom asleep?" I whispered.

"She could be, but I don't know. She might wake up and come check to see if I'm back yet," she answered as we tiptoed upstairs.

"What are the chances of her coming into your room if I kiss you as soon as we enter it?" I asked as she opened the door.

She covered her mouth to stifle her laugh. She stepped inside and I followed, closing the door behind me. "I don't know, I think the chances are pretty high," she chuckled, shrugging her jacket off before tossing it onto her bed.

"I think I'll bet on the odds," I said, walking closer to her.

"I think she'll walk in," she whispered.

"Will she care?"

"She might."

"Is it worth the risk?"

"No," she chuckled, shaking her head.

"Yes," I nodded.

"No," she shook her head again.

"Yeah," I nodded again, chuckling before I grabbed her shirt and pulled her forward, silencing her with a kiss. She smiled against my lips before kissing me back, her arms going around my neck while mine rested around her waist.

"We'll get caught," she whispered into the kiss.

"We're not doing anything wrong," I retorted, "Are we?" I pulled back to look her in the eyes.

She shook her head, "No."

"I know we don't know everything to know about each other," I sighed. She knows I'm talking about Chloe when I say that.

"But it's close enough," she shrugged, smiling.

"I promise I'll tell you one day," I groaned.

"Do or don't," she said, brushing my hair out of my eyes, "I don't really care."

"Shit," I whispered, "What if I fall in love with you?" I asked.

She snorted, clamping her hand over her mouth. "We just kissed for the first time ever, why are you thinking of falling in love with me?" she laughed.

Maybe it's cause you want to, dumbass.

"I don't know," I chuckled.

"Emmy?" I took a step back as the door slowly opened. "Oh, hi. I was just wondering if you're back by now. Did you guys have fun?" Mrs. Hayden asked.

"Yeah, we had a lot of fun," Emma grinned.

"Good, that's great. Goodnight," she smiled before leaving.

"Goodnight, Mrs. H," I said.

"Night, mom," Emma said.

I turned to her as soon as the door closed and she looked at me expectantly. "Do I have to go to the guest room now? Cause I really don't want to," I chuckled, rubbing my hands over my face.

"You can stay, just... don't get handsy," she smirked.

"I'm not gonna get handsy," I scoffed, collapsing onto her bed.

"Go change," she laughed. I rolled off her bed and went to change while she grabbed her clothes and went to her bathroom. I changed and then brushed my teeth before I went back into her room. She was just coming out of her bathroom, flicking the lights off on the way.

"What do you think actually happened to the Ferris Wheel?" she asked, both of us crawling into her bed.

"I think God just got sick and tired of us avoiding the kiss," I joked.

"Nathan," she chuckled, smacking my chest, "Seriously. That Ferris Wheel is... aged. How the hell did they make it work, and how does it only get stuck the time I come?" she groaned.

"Emma, it was just a coincidence," I said.

"I don't believe in coincidences," she argued.

"Then call it fate," I replied.

"Fate? For us to kiss?" I nodded, lying on my side so I was facing her. "Maybe," she laughed.

"What? You don't believe in coincidences but you believe in fate?" I asked incredulously.

"I believe in the universe, let's just leave it at that."

"And do you believe in destiny?" She nodded again. "And were we destined to meet?"

"I don't know yet, my answer depends on how you treat me. If you treat me wrong, I'll say no."

"Why would I treat you wrong?" I questioned.

"Cause you have your issues but I've got mine too. I just think if we don't communicate, it'll fall apart. That's not just us, that's for everybody. Always," she turned to me and poked my chest, "Communicate."
