Chapter 4 #2
When we exited the restroom, I was in front of the girls and literally collided with Adonis who appeared to be on his way to the men’s room. To keep me from stumbling, he circled his arm around my waist and held me against his person.
I wanted to say something; apologize for running into him and stepping on his shoes, or to ask him to release me, but the feeling of being in his secure hold along with the intoxicating scent of his cologne had rendered me speechless.
I often dreamed about what being in his embrace would feel like, and it felt exactly how I’d imagined.
Secure.
Safe.
“You good?” he asked, the vibrations from his deep baritone giving me chills.
“Y-yes.” I stammered, finally snapping out of the trance he had me in and stepping out of his embrace. “I’m sorry.”
“You good.” He held eye contact with me for a second before looking to my sister and Camara, nodding at them both and saying, “what’s good y’all.”
“Hi, Don.” They both sang in unison.
I felt them both nudge me subtly before they continued on, leaving us alone in the small hallway. Gerica lived for shit like this and Camara was no better. They’d both been team Adonis from the very beginning.
His gaze traveled back to mine, and for a second, I was stuck. His dark eyes always intrigued me. They told a story that he’d never really been willing to vocalize, but I didn’t need him to. I knew what he was thinking and feeling just from simply looking into his eyes.
I thought I did anyways.
“Jru!” Derrick barked my name causing me to jump and reminding me that he was in the club with us. Adonis frowned when I flinched. “Get yo’ ass over here!”
I got ready to make my way to him, but Adonis’s soft hand wrapped around my wrist to stop me.
“Nigga don’t be fuckin’ yellin’ at her,” he snapped.
“Don’t tell me how to handle my bitch nigga.”
Derrick and his people began closing the distance, and I panicked.
Adonis was alone while Derrick had five guys behind him.
I quickly pulled my hand away and made my way to my boyfriend.
I knew that Adonis could hold his own because I’d seen him in action plenty of times, but he was severely outnumbered, and I didn’t want him getting hurt on account of me.
Adonis clearly didn’t care how many niggas were with Derrick because he stepped in front of me before I could make it over to him, damn near nose to nose.
“Disrespect her again. I dare you to call her out her mothafuckin’ name again.” He stood there with his arms folded in front of his chest as if he were taunting him. “Give me a reason to beat yo’ ass in here tonight.”
Derrick smirked, looking Adonis up and down.
“Check him out,” he chuckled, glancing back at the men behind him then turning his attention back to Adonis. “You willing to get yo’ ass beat just to impress my girl.”
He could act as tough as he wanted to, but he made sure not to call me out of my name.
He knew as well as I did that Adonis would make good on his promise.
Even knowing that though, Derrick looked like he wanted to try to prove a point, so I stepped around Adonis and grabbed Derrick’s arm before things went south.
“Let’s just go.”
“Yeah, nigga, you better listen.” Adonis taunted. “Go before you get embarrassed in front of yo’ girl.”
“Adonis, stop.” I frowned then tugged Derrick’s arm. “Come on, baby.”
He resisted for a second before finally giving in and allowing me to pull him away.
“Fuck you doin’ over there in that nigga’s face?” he barked, stopping me once we were in the section. I was heading back to where my sister and Camara were, but he had other plans.
“I wasn’t in his face!” I shouted. “I accidentally bumped into him on the way out of the restroom!”
“You should’ve brought your ass back with your sister and them!” he countered. “Stupid ass. Let’s go.” He gripped my forearm and started to pull me back toward the stairs that led to the section. I was trying to pull away, but he had a vice grip on me.
“Let go of me, Derrick! You’re hurting me!”
He wasn’t trying to hear anything that I was saying, he didn’t care, because he was still pulling me despite me resisting.
Geri and Camara saw what was going on and ran over.
They’d cut off his path and were in a full-blown argument in the middle of the floor.
Things went left quickly when he roughly shoved Geri.
Before either of us could react, Adonis came out of nowhere crashing his fist into Derrick’s face.
A brawl quickly broke out because Derrick as well as Adonis’s people ran down and joined in the fight.
I was both shocked and impressed to see Adonis and his people on the winning end of the fight because they were clearly outnumbered.
Everyone knew that Adonis could fight, and I’d heard stories about Bayshawn, or Ziggy as everyone called him, but I’d never seen him in action.
He was just as good as his friend because they were both handling multiple niggas at once.
The crowd was moving, shifting back and forth, people were screaming and falling all over the place. My sister grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the way just in time. The three of us ran toward the exit then to her car once we were outside.
“Bitch, that was wild!” Geri laughed. “I hope Don beats that nigga’s ass!”
“Bitch was!” Camara cackled. “You don’t have to hope. They were handling their asses!”
“Y’all that is not funny.” I giggled, feeling bad about being amused. Derrick was my man so I shouldn’t have been satisfied by him being hurt, but he was in the wrong pulling on me and shoving my sister.
“Fuck him, Jru,” Geri said as she pulled away. “Everyone isn’t going to accept his disrespect, and you shouldn’t either.” I saw her glance at me in the rearview mirror. “You need to leave him, sis.”
“Gerica, please.” I sighed, not wanting to hear her mouth. I was already going to have to hear Derrick’s when I got home or when he got there depending on which one of us made it first.
“I’m not going to lecture you because you already know all of this, but if he can drag you all around, shove me with no damn regard, then that says a lot about him. I hope like hell he isn’t hitting you.”
I frowned. “He’s not.”
Derrick talked a lot of shit, but he’d never hit me. He’d gotten mad enough that I thought he would, but he never put his hands on me. If he did, I was leaving. I wasn’t putting up with that.
Geri talked shit the entire ride to my house. I was glad to be out of the car once we made it because she’d said she wasn’t going to lecture me, but she did exactly that the whole ride.
Once I was inside, I showered and got in bed. I wanted to get at least a little sleep because I knew that when Derrick got home, I wasn’t going to hear the end of tonight’s situation.
